The Thayer Hotel boasts an exclusive and highly advantageous location at 674 Thayer Rd, West Point, NY 10996, USA. What truly sets this hotel apart is its unique position directly on the grounds of the United States Military Academy at West Point. This unparalleled access is a significant convenience for anyone visiting the academy for events, family visits, or official engagements.
Being on-site means guests can enjoy immediate proximity to West Point's historic landmarks, academic buildings, and parade grounds. This significantly reduces travel time and eliminates the logistical challenges of parking and navigating to and from the academy, especially during high-traffic event days. The hotel is named after Colonel Sylvanus Thayer, a pivotal figure in the academy's history, further solidifying its connection to the institution.
For those traveling by car from New York City, West Point is approximately 50-60 miles north, typically a 1 to 1.5-hour drive via major routes like US-9W or the Palisades Interstate Parkway, offering scenic views as you approach the Hudson Valley. Upon arrival at West Point, guests of The Thayer Hotel will follow signs to the hotel. It's important to note that while the hotel is on the academy grounds, visitors without a Department of Defense ID will still need to go through the West Point Visitors Center to obtain a visitor pass and follow specific security protocols for entry to the academy property. The hotel's staff can provide guidance on these procedures.
Beyond West Point, the hotel's location offers convenient access to other popular Hudson Valley attractions. Bear Mountain State Park, with its extensive hiking trails and natural beauty, is just a short drive away. The charming village of Highland Falls, offering local dining and shops, is also easily accessible.
While driving is the primary mode of transportation for most visitors, public transportation options to West Point are limited. Metro-North Railroad serves nearby towns like Peekskill or Cold Spring on the eastern side of the Hudson. From these stations, a taxi or ride-sharing service would be necessary to reach West Point and The Thayer Hotel. Given its prime on-campus location and the overall convenience it offers, The Thayer Hotel's accessibility is a major draw for discerning New Yorkers seeking a seamless and immersive West Point experience.

The Thayer Hotel Reviews
Our meals were at Patton's Tavern.5 stars isn't enough for Patton's Tavern! They deserve more than that. Chill place, good service, and amazing food. Everything that we had was worth trying. No bad meals. Portions are big enough that you can get two meals out of whatever you get. The Thayer Hotel was stunning. I was impressed with the architecture. The view overlooking the Hudson River is breathtakingly beautiful.
May 11, 2025 · Kelly PelusoWent for Mothers day brunch. Room was spotless. Food was ok. People would say it's amazing but I didn't see anything special about it.Grounds are nice but can only walk a few spots as you otherwise need I.D
May 22, 2025 · paul byrneHad an 80th birthday party for my mother and the Thayer did not let me down. Great food, lots of food and good service. We were able to walk right outside and look at the river and of course tour the hotel with is beautiful. Very happy we selected the Thayer Hotel for the event.
May 20, 2025 · Dave PTheir windows don't block noise at all and they have an outdoor bar open until 11 PM with trains passing constantly. If there are weddings, they can keep that bar open even later. One of the nights, there was a party until past 1 am with music blasting and people shouting. They charge really high rates as well as a facility fee so this is truly unjustifiable. Absolutely nothing blocked the sound out and I basically couldn't sleep for two nights in a row. I understand they're hosting events but if you can't provide soundproofing and guests are paying over $350 a night, that's not reasonable. The staff was generally unsympathetic about it as well (I understand there's not much they can do but again given the prices it felt a little unpleasant).
May 29, 2025 · Julia SFood for Mothers Day Brunch was OUTSTANDING. The sat is quickly. Servers were extremely nice and courteous. The only complaint was how warm it was in the dining area. No airflow.
