The Washington by LuxUrban Reviews
Based on recent reviews I gave this hotel a higher rating. I was anxious after reading about “black mold, non working tvs, out of service elevators, rude employees, etc”To my surprise, I was greeted by very friendly staff every time I saw them.Yes only one elevator was running, but I didn’t wait for the elevator once or climb the stairs. Or ride with room service and garbage and dirty mop buckets. The room did not wreak of any odors, the sheets and towels were all there, free of any stains. The location was great, although my room overlooked construction, that was not the hotels fault. All of the bathrooms hygiene products were stocked. As described in the ads.It seems like previous reviewers had higher expectations for the prices. Our friends stayed across the street for more than double the price. This was perfectly fine for us, when we only stayed in the room to sleep.I would definitely stay here again next time. For reference, I booked the corner deluxe room.
May 26, 2025 · Kristofer KratzertThe headlines are:1) The elevator was "being serviced" so guests take one elevator from the ground to the 5th floor, then walk through a dark passage to the service elevator and get off on your floor in a housekeeping closet. Weird and very inconvenient, plus it must be a major issue for employees. 2) There is zero security. We walked in with no key card and anyone could do the same. Also, the sign on the elevator looked pretty old, so it seems more like they just aren't going to fix it, and that is consistent with the finishes, fixtures and decor which are way overdue for maintenance or replacement. The entry, lobby and public areas were dated, dark and shabby. In the entry, for example, there are elaborate hanging lights that must be from the 2000s and are caked with dust. The bathroom walls were not clean, the toilet seat should have been replaced long ago, the vent and mirror light didn't work and there was no soap or tissues. The walls in the room needed to be cleaned and painted, the TV didn't work and the duvet was torn. I don't actually care about outdated decor, dinged up walls or even the TV, but they do indicate a lack of upkeep in general. The very few pluses: great location and view, the room was a good size and was quiet, and we got a good price. We do not recommend, and we certainly won't stay here again.
Apr 20, 2025 · brigid jerredI am shocked and appalled by the status of this hotel. It is clear that no one cares about maintaining it. We tried to spend as little time as possible here. This hotel is in no condition for guests and I believe that I and hotels.com have been scammed. First of all, the black mold in the shower (see photos) is a serious health code violation. I was too scared NOT to wear shower shoes. Next, there are 20+ floors and the guest elevators have apparently been broken for months. Only one of the two service elevators is working. We were joined by garbage bags, dirty mop buckets, and angry staff on every ride. It was nauseating. We ended up having to walk down 11 flights of stairs with our luggage because after waiting for 20 minutes, the elevators were full both times. Cramming as many people as possible into the elevator cannot be safe. Next, there were no shower towels when we arrived. I called and was told they we were waiting for the delivery truck to arrive. How does a hotel not monitor clean towel levels and refresh accordingly? Basic amenities don’t exist here - there was no tissue box, no garbage can in the bathroom, not even a bar of hand soap in this room. The TV kept turning on and off - possibly because it was raining outside and the reception was bad? The hotel was not cheap either - all of this cost $321 on a Saturday in April. I wish I would’ve spent a few extra dollars to stay at a Marriott around the corner. I hope this review saves another person from booking this disgusting hotel.
Apr 28, 2025 · Katie PaonessaWhat a disappointment ! I’m a huge fan of W hotels, their design, minimalistic and clean facilities. This was a business trip for an event in the Financial DistrictArrived Sunday, there were no towels or toiletries and frankly the room didn’t seem 💯 clean.I always travel with pods for clothes and I didn’t take them out of the suitcase or my toiletries.I couldn’t change the room as it was no refundable through Travelocity. However the view was spectacular and the bed was very comfortable and sheets were nice and soft.
May 23, 2025 · Mary RuizExcellent location, comfortable and clean bed.The hotel needs renovation. The paint on the walls is damaged in some areas.I noticed that the lack of towels is a real issue! We didn’t receive any towels either — we were told they only had small hand towels, which were useless for showering. Luckily, I always pack my own towels. There were no bags in the trash bins. A bad smell was coming from the air conditioning.Personally, I wasn’t bothered by the fact that only one elevator was working, as I never had to wait more than 2 minutes for it.We wanted to leave our luggage somewhere before check-in time, and the bags were left next to the reception, where anyone could have taken them. At check-out, it was even worse — the bags were left near the hotel entrance, where they were even more exposed.Overall, the view was excellent, but I’m not sure I would choose this hotel again.
