Verve Hotel, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member Introduce
The Verve Hotel, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member, situated at 40-03 29th St, Long Island City, NY 11101, USA, serves as a pragmatic and strategically located lodging option for those visiting New York City. Operating under the Ascend Hotel Collection, it implies a unique, boutique-style experience, distinguishing it from standard chain hotels. While not a traditional "Scenic Spot" like a park or a monument, in the context of a platform categorizing travel accommodations, it functions as a "Scenic Spot" for its ability to provide a compelling "scene" or "setting" for a traveler's journey in New York. Its allure lies in its convenient location, value proposition, and the practical amenities it offers, making it a valuable "service for sale" in the bustling metropolitan area. The hotel can be contacted at (718) 786-4545 or +1 718-786-4545.
The Verve Hotel is located in Long Island City (LIC), Queens, a vibrant neighborhood that has undergone significant revitalization and development. This environment offers a compelling blend of urban convenience and cultural vibrancy. LIC is known for its burgeoning arts scene, waterfront parks with stunning Manhattan skyline views, diverse dining options, and excellent transportation links. Being a mere subway ride away from Manhattan, as one reviewer noted, positions the Verve Hotel as an ideal base for exploring New York City without incurring the higher costs often associated with staying directly in Manhattan.
A key environmental feature highlighted by a satisfied customer is the "beautiful view of the city" from the higher floors, such as the sixth floor. This offers a visual "scenic spot" right from the guest's room, allowing for a panoramic appreciation of the iconic New York City skyline. The hotel's proximity to major film and television production facilities like Silvercup Studios further embeds it in the dynamic atmosphere of LIC.
It is important to acknowledge that the hotel has been involved in contracts with the Department of Homeless Services (DHS)/Department of Social Services (DSS) to provide temporary housing. While this has raised questions about hotel operations in some contexts, as one review details, the hotel, as a business owner, enters these agreements at "market rate" for rooms, and it can be a "benefit for everyone involved" by providing consistent revenue for the hotel and temporary housing for clients. While this aspect of its operations affects its internal environment and clientele mix, for regular paying guests, the focus remains on the services and facilities offered during their stay.
As an Ascend Hotel Collection Member, the Verve Hotel aims to offer a unique yet comfortable experience. It is a 6-story property with 87 non-smoking guestrooms and suites, providing a range of "services for sale" that cater to both business and leisure travelers. Key features and amenities include:
- Complimentary Hot Breakfast: A significant amenity highlighted by guests, who found the "continental breakfast was good, too. Not the best I have ever had, but definitely better than most!" This provides a convenient and cost-saving start to the day.
- Free WiFi: Essential for modern travelers, free wireless high-speed internet is available in both rooms and common areas, enabling guests to stay connected.
- Exercise Room: The hotel includes an on-site exercise room, allowing guests to maintain their fitness routines while traveling.
- Guest Laundry Facilities: A practical amenity for longer stays or for travelers needing to refresh their wardrobe.
- In-Room Amenities: Guest rooms feature modern conveniences such as refrigerators, coffee makers, irons, ironing boards, and HDTVs. Some suites also include microwaves and whirlpool bathtubs, offering enhanced comfort.
- Meeting Facilities and Business Services: The Verve Hotel provides a meeting room (648 sq ft, accommodating up to 60 people) and business services like fax and copy, making it suitable for business travelers.
- 24-Hour Front Desk: Ensures that guests have assistance and support at any time.
- Convenient Transportation Access: The hotel is located just a short walk (approximately 2 blocks) from subway stations (like Queens Plaza and Queensboro Plaza), offering quick and easy access to Manhattan landmarks and attractions, including Times Square, Museum of Modern Art, and Central Park. This accessibility is a primary feature valued by guests, as it negates the need for a car.
One reviewer's experience strongly attests to the positive features, noting, "Our room was immaculate and on the sixth floor there was a beautiful view of the city. The continental breakfast was good, too... I would absolutely stay here again." They also praised the "extremely helpful with directions and recommendations" given by the hotel clerk, highlighting a focus on guest service despite the complexities mentioned in other reviews.
The Verve Hotel, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member, is promoted as a smart choice for travelers seeking a balance of affordability, convenience, and comfort in New York City. As a "Scenic Spot" in the lodging category, its "goods for sale" are the well-appointed guest rooms and suites, while its "services for sale" encompass the range of amenities and the strategic location it provides.
Key promotional messages would focus on:
- Exceptional Value: Position the hotel as a cost-effective alternative to Manhattan accommodations, allowing guests to save money without compromising on accessibility to the city's main attractions. This is a crucial selling point for budget-conscious travelers.
- Prime Location in Long Island City: Highlight the vibrant neighborhood of LIC itself, with its cultural offerings, dining scene, and waterfront parks, which serve as mini "scenic spots" within walking distance or a short ride.
- Seamless Manhattan Access: Emphasize the quick and easy subway ride to Midtown and other Manhattan destinations, making it an ideal base for sightseeing, business, or entertainment.
- Comfort and Convenience: Promote the included amenities like free hot breakfast, free WiFi, and an exercise room, which add significant value to the stay and enhance guest comfort.
- Panoramic City Views: Market the availability of rooms with "beautiful view of the city," offering an added aesthetic bonus and a memorable experience for guests.
- Reliable and Clean Accommodation: Reassure potential guests about the cleanliness and quality of the rooms, as affirmed by positive guest experiences, counteracting any general concerns that might arise from public information about hotel usage.
Despite the contextual information about its contracts with city services, the direct customer review clearly indicates that for many paying guests, the Verve Hotel delivers a positive experience. The hotel's ability to offer "immaculate" rooms, "helpful" staff, and "good" breakfast, combined with its excellent location and competitive pricing, positions it as a compelling "Scenic Spot" for lodging in the broader New York City area. It stands as a testament to practical lodging that provides a solid base and unexpected delights, such as skyline views, for those exploring the metropolis.

Verve Hotel, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member Reviews
The City pays hotels that want to solely rent their rooms to DHS/DSS. There's no forcing business owners to comply here! The City pays market rate for rooms and some amenities for clients. Typically hotels that are financially struggling enter into this type of contractual agreement that's a benefit for everyone involved. DHS/DSS is adhering to its temporary housing obligations with the OTDA, clients prefer a hotel setting compared to the typical shelter environment, and hotel owners can rent their rooms consistently for top dollar. Most hotel owners don't perceive homeless clients as "paying customers" so they aren't given permission for the hotel's wifi, gym, computer, lounge but given basic housekeeping and maintenance help. The elevators and hallways in many smaller hotels aren't regularly cleaned by hotel management simply because of their bias towards homeless people.
Apr 08, 2025 · CUNY GraduateI'll admit I was slightly worried about staying here due to some of the reviews I read. I, however, didn't have a single complaint! Three of my friends and I were going to see the city for the first time and chose this location as it was only a subway ride away and the cheapest we could find in the surrounding area. The hotel clerk the day we got there was extremely helpful with directions and recommendations. Our room was immaculate and on the sixth floor there was a beautiful view of the city. The continental breakfast was good, too. Not the best I have ever had, but definitely better than most! I would absolutely stay here again.
May 20, 2015 · Lacey DowneyThe front desk lady was absolutely the rudest hotel staff I have ever encountered. The heater in the room did not work and she sounded very upset when she found out we needed to change room. She did not want to admit her fault when I confronted her. That should be hospitality 101. ALSO, my credit card was charged without my authorization NOR my knowledge. The manager just randomly dropped a phone call to room and said could not reach me. The location is good but I would NOT stay here EVER again because my friends and I were treated unfairly. I have never been treated like this with any other hotels. The room was NOT clean either and filled with a smell. We arrived at the hotel around 1 pm and there was no room ready, which does not happen often for other hotels at all!!
Dec 02, 2013 · Kexing RenStayed here for two nights Sat-Mon. Great service. The room was nice, clean, and up to date. Very cleanliness. There is a parking garage under the hotel which was $25 per night. The only complaint I had was they are strict on having guests over. Our room rate was a two person maximum, and they made a big deal about us having two guests in the room that weren't even sleeping over, just visiting before we went out for the night. Would be nice if they had microwaves in the room, but they had a fridge and plenty of drawers/closet space for us to unpack our things. Check-out is at 11 and we were late checking out at almost 12:30pm which they charged us an extra fee for. Overall I would definitely stay at this hotel again for the price we paid.
Mar 22, 2013 · Lynne BorgesI recently made a reservation at the verve hotel in long Island City. When we arrived to check in the staff was very nasty to me, i have never experienced such blatant disrespect. The Manager on duty screamed at me telling me that I have to pay an extra charge for the third person. The coffee maker in the room did not work and the room was not too clean and the towels need a good washing with a bleaching detergent. the staff sounded very upset when they found out we needed to change room. The next day the front desk spanish male was absolutely the rudest hotel staff I have ever encountered. I want to canceled our reservation and the male staff had an attitude, I felt like I was in jail. before you do a reservation here do your research and read the reviews.
