4.0
Nice little park with a several picnic tables and benches. Good spot where you can sit and eat your delicious hot dog or sausage. You can buy them from the little stand outside the Ehmer meat market across the street. Lots of nice dedications to local veterans and firemen. Looks to me like this might rightly be called the Veterans & Firemans Memorial Park as per the different plaques and monuments(see pic) Great little gazebo near the RR tracks. They need more waste cans as there was lots of litter on the ground near the picnic tables. No facilities or recreation area. - R David Koby

Being on Broadway, one of Hillsdale's main arteries, means the park is easy to find whether you're traveling by car, on foot, or even by bicycle. It's important to note what the park does not offer, to manage expectations effectively. Based on available information, Veterans Park does not have dedicated restroom facilities or extensive recreation areas such as playgrounds or sports fields. Features / Highlights

Veterans Park, though modest in size, boasts several distinctive features that enhance its charm and utility for the Hillsdale community. These highlights contribute to its unique character and appeal.

  • Commemorative Significance: One of the most prominent features of Veterans Park is its role as a memorial. With numerous dedications, plaques, and monuments to local veterans and firemen, the park serves as a respectful tribute to those who have served. This rich commemorative aspect provides a sense of history and community pride, making it a place for reflection and remembrance. It's often referred to as "Veterans & Firemans Memorial Park" due to these significant installations.
  • Quaint and Peaceful Atmosphere: The park is consistently described as a "nice little park" or "quaint." Its smaller scale contributes to a peaceful and uncrowded atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It offers a sense of tranquility that larger, more active parks might not provide.
  • Proximity to Local Eateries: A unique highlight is the park's location directly across the street from the Ehmer meat market. This allows visitors the convenient option of purchasing delicious hot dogs or sausages from a stand outside and bringing them over to the park's picnic tables for an enjoyable outdoor meal. This synergistic relationship with a local business enhances the park's utility as a lunch spot.
  • Scenic Gazebo: The presence of a charming gazebo, situated near the railroad tracks, adds a picturesque element to the park. While it offers shelter, its aesthetic appeal also makes it a pleasant focal point and a potential venue for small, informal community gatherings or performances, as it has been noted to host concerts.
  • Community-Focused Design: The park's layout, with its picnic tables and benches, is clearly designed to foster community interaction and provide comfortable spaces for locals to gather informally. It emphasizes a sense of belonging and provides a low-key venue for social connection within the neighborhood.
Promotions or Special Offers

As a public park, Veterans Park itself does not typically run traditional promotions or special offers in the commercial sense. Its value lies in its free accessibility and public amenities. However, its close relationship with local businesses can be considered an indirect benefit or "offer" for visitors. For instance, the ability to purchase food from the Ehmer meat market across the street and enjoy it in the park is a practical advantage for park-goers. While not an official park promotion, it's a convenient arrangement that enhances the park experience. Occasional community events, such as concerts, if scheduled, would be announced by local Hillsdale organizations rather than the park itself. It is always recommended to check local Hillsdale community calendars or municipal announcements for any planned events at the park.
