Windsor Hotel Introduce
For New Yorkers, and for those looking to host visitors from out of town on a budget, finding an affordable hotel in Manhattan that doesn't compromise on location can feel like a quest. The Windsor Hotel, nestled in the vibrant Lower East Side, presents itself as a practical solution for those seeking a no-frills, cost-effective stay in the heart of the city. While it’s important to manage expectations for a 2-star establishment, as one reviewer noted, many guests are "pleasantly surprised" by the unexpected touches and prime accessibility.
The Windsor Hotel is designed for the savvy traveler who prioritizes location and affordability over luxury amenities. It offers a straightforward approach to lodging, providing a clean and basic room to serve as a convenient base for exploring New York City. Despite some minor operational quirks mentioned by guests, the overall sentiment points to its value proposition. If your goal is to find a "cheap stay in Manhattan" that puts you within easy reach of the city's most iconic attractions, the Windsor Hotel is certainly a place to consider. Its strategic proximity to key subway lines is a major draw, allowing you to maximize your time exploring the city rather than spending it on commutes.
The Windsor Hotel boasts a highly advantageous location at 108 Forsyth St, New York, NY 10002, USA. This places it perfectly within the vibrant and culturally rich Lower East Side of Manhattan, right on the border of Chinatown. This area is known for its diverse culinary scene, historic streets, and bustling markets, offering an authentic New York experience right outside your door.
One of the most significant advantages of the Windsor Hotel's location is its exceptional accessibility via public transportation. It's incredibly "close to the orange subway line," specifically the Grand Street station (B, D trains), which is just a very short walk away. The B and D trains provide direct and quick access to many of Manhattan's most iconic spots. You can reach:
- Midtown Manhattan: Including Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and Columbus Circle, typically within 10-15 minutes.
- Greenwich Village and SoHo: Known for their charming streets, boutiques, and nightlife, are just a few stops away.
- Coney Island (D train): For a longer, but direct, trip to the famous amusement park in Brooklyn.
Additionally, the Essex Street station (J, M, Z trains) is also within walking distance, providing further connections to Brooklyn, as well as easy access to the Williamsburg Bridge. The strategic positioning on Forsyth Street also means quick access to major thoroughfares, making taxi or ride-share services convenient. This unparalleled subway access is a key factor in why the Windsor Hotel is recommended for those looking to efficiently navigate and experience New York City's diverse attractions.
As a 2-star hotel focused on providing affordable lodging, the Windsor Hotel offers essential services designed to meet the basic needs of travelers.
- 24-Hour Front Desk: While specific details aren't publicly listed, most hotels in NYC, even at a 2-star level, typically offer round-the-clock reception to assist with check-in, check-out, and basic inquiries.
- Cleaning Services (By Request): Rooms are cleaned by request, providing flexibility for guests and potentially contributing to the hotel's affordability. This means you can choose when you want your room serviced.
- Basic Toiletries Provided: Guests can expect "travel size toothpaste, shampoo & conditioner in our bathroom," a pleasant surprise that adds convenience for budget travelers.
- Private Bathrooms: Each room comes with its own private bathroom, ensuring privacy and comfort.
- Heating/Air Conditioning: Rooms are equipped with heating and air conditioning. While one review mentioned a "hard to operate" heating button, the presence of climate control is a standard offering.
- Free Wi-Fi: While not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, it is a common offering even in budget hotels today, and essential for modern travelers.
Given its classification, the hotel focuses on providing clean, basic, and centrally located accommodations rather than extensive luxury services. The emphasis is on convenience and affordability.
The Windsor Hotel, while a 2-star establishment, has several features and highlights that make it a compelling option for budget-conscious travelers in New York City.
- Unbeatable Value: Its primary highlight is its affordability, offering a "cheap stay in Manhattan" that is rare for a central location.
- Prime Lower East Side Location: Situated on Forsyth Street, it places guests directly in the heart of the vibrant Lower East Side and on the edge of Chinatown, offering immediate access to diverse culture, food, and unique shopping experiences.
- Excellent Subway Accessibility: A significant highlight is its proximity to the "orange subway line" (B, D trains) at Grand Street, providing quick and direct access to major Manhattan attractions like Midtown, Times Square, and Greenwich Village.
- Unexpected Amenities: Guests have been "pleasantly surprised" by "travel size toothpaste, shampoo & conditioner in our bathroom," showing attention to small details that enhance the guest experience.
- Private Rooms with Bathrooms: Despite being a budget option, the hotel offers private rooms with their own bathrooms, ensuring privacy and convenience for guests.
- Cleaning by Request: The option for cleaning by request allows guests to manage their privacy and potentially contributes to the hotel's cost-effectiveness.
- Heating in Rooms: While one review noted an issue, the presence of heating (and presumably air conditioning, which is standard in NYC hotels) is a key feature for comfort during different seasons.
- Gateway to Iconic Spots: Its convenient subway access means it truly "gets you to the most iconic spots" in New York City with ease.
As a budget-friendly 2-star hotel, the Windsor Hotel's primary "promotion" is its inherently affordable pricing for a Manhattan location. Unlike larger hotel chains, it's less likely to feature complex seasonal promotions or loyalty programs. However, for those seeking value, its consistent affordability in a high-demand city serves as its core offering.
When considering a stay at the Windsor Hotel, you might find "offers" in the form of:
- Competitive Rates: Compared to hotels with more extensive amenities in Manhattan, the Windsor Hotel aims to consistently provide one of the most cost-effective options in a central location.
- Online Travel Agency Deals: Booking through popular online travel agencies (OTAs) might occasionally yield minor discounts or packages, though these are typically managed by the platforms themselves rather than directly by the hotel as a specific promotion.
- Last-Minute Availability: For spontaneous trips, the hotel might offer last-minute availability at its standard budget rates, which can be seen as a promotional benefit in a city where rooms fill up quickly.
It's always recommended to check various booking platforms and contact the hotel directly to compare rates and ensure you're getting the best available price for your desired dates. The most significant "offer" from the Windsor Hotel remains its commitment to providing a "cheap stay" that allows you to experience the best of Manhattan without breaking the bank.
For reservations, inquiries, or any other assistance, the Windsor Hotel can be reached through the following contact details:
Address: 108 Forsyth St, New York, NY 10002, USA
Phone: (212) 226-3009
Mobile Phone: +1 212-226-3009
It's always a good practice to confirm specific details regarding your stay directly with the hotel, especially concerning check-in procedures, payment methods, and any particular needs you might have.
For New Yorkers, the Windsor Hotel offers a highly suitable lodging option, particularly for those looking to host visitors or needing a temporary base within the city on a strict budget. Its most compelling advantage is its "cheap stay in Manhattan" combined with its fantastic location in the vibrant Lower East Side. This means whether you're welcoming friends and family from out of town who want to explore NYC without spending a fortune on accommodation, or you need a convenient spot for a brief staycation yourself, the Windsor Hotel provides practical value.
The hotel’s direct proximity to the "orange subway line" (B, D trains) is a game-changer for locals. This allows for incredibly efficient travel to "the most iconic spots" across Manhattan, saving time and transportation costs. You can easily reach Midtown, Times Square, and even Brooklyn's attractions with minimal fuss. While it's a 2-star hotel, the unexpected amenities like provided toiletries and the option for on-request cleaning add small touches of convenience. For any New Yorker prioritizing location and affordability to truly immerse themselves or their guests in the city's energy without breaking the bank, the Windsor Hotel is a practical and highly recommended choice in the Lower East Side.

Windsor Hotel Reviews
Visiting NYC today, security would not let me use the bathroom. Last time I go there... stay away, especially if you have a medical condition.
Nov 18, 2024 · Samuel ChiFor 2 star hotel I didn’t have much expectation. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised finding travel size toothpaste, shampoo & conditioner in our bathroom. They provide cleaning only by request. Room was cold when we arrived and the heating button was hard to operate due to its state - the top of the button just wasn’t there. Despite these facts, if you are looking for a cheap stay in Manhattan, go for it. Plus, It’s close to the orange subway line which gets you to the most iconic spots.
Dec 13, 2022 · Simona PalovcikovaGreat Hotel in a good location in Chinatown. Only five minutes from the subway. The hotel is on the older side but the rooms are ok. Everything is working, sheets are clean and beds are fine. It is not a four seasons though. But for people wanting to visit the city and not only staying at the hotel and don't want to spend a fortune it is a great place. The personnel at the front desk are super nice and accommodating. We felt very welcomed and had a great time.
May 05, 2022 · Joe KLook. I'll be straight and to the point. This is a bed with a private bathroom. Were the sheets and bed spread dazzling white? No. Was the bathroom pristine enough to eat off the floor? No. Did it keep me dry and warm? Yes. Just returned from three nights here. Tore apart the bed on arrival and combed over the whole thing. Couldn't find one trace of a bed bug anywhere. After three nights of sleeping here I didn't have any bites at all. The heater and AC worked. The shower had amazing pressure and super hot water. All in all not a bad room for what it is. Front desk staff were very nice. The location is incredible being right in Chinatown and right beside the subway stop. If you are looking for a great location with just a room to crash in until your next-day adventure I wouldn't turn this place down. It's NYC- you're not spending loads of time in your room anyway. Don't expect a Hilton experience on a Motel 6 budget.
Mar 19, 2019 · Joe BrowningMy friends and I had no major issues when staying here this past weekend. Basically a bed to crash in, nothing fancy - get out of your hotel room and go see NYC anyway. Room was clean enough, beds weren’t stained or really dirty, and everything worked fine. Decent low cost option near Chinatown. Only real problem I had was that it took quite a while for the shower water to warm up.
