Elwood Park is conveniently located on Cuba Hill Road, Elwood, NY 11731, USA, within the picturesque and family-friendly community of Elwood, a hamlet of Huntington in Suffolk County, Long Island. This central location makes it easily accessible for residents throughout Huntington and neighboring towns.

The park typically offers designated parking areas, making it convenient for visitors to arrive and enjoy the facilities. Elwood is well-connected by Long Island’s main roadways, including proximity to the Northern State Parkway and the Long Island Expressway (I-495), ensuring a straightforward drive from various points across Long Island, Nassau County, and even the New York City boroughs for a convenient day trip.
While direct public transportation to the park's precise entrance on Cuba Hill Road may vary, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) provides service to nearby stations such as Huntington, from which a short taxi, ride-sharing service, or local bus connection could complete the journey. For many local families within Elwood, the park is within comfortable walking or cycling distance, reinforcing its role as a vital neighborhood amenity. The park's "tucked away" nature, as described by visitors, contributes to its less crowded feel, making it an even more appealing destination for those seeking a relaxed outing.
Elwood Park offers a fantastic array of "services" designed to provide enjoyable and safe recreational experiences for families and individuals, particularly during the warmer months:
Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park: A key feature and service of the park is its splash park, known as the Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park. This interactive water play area is a "good tribute to a fallen sergeant" and offers "lots of water splash sections for kids," providing a refreshing escape during hot summer days.
Recreation Card Access for Spray Park: To access the spray park, visitors need a recreational card, which can be obtained at the town hall. This system helps manage usage and ensures that local residents can prioritize access to this popular amenity.
Enclosed Playground: The park features a "nice tucked away playground" that is "fully enclosed" or "fenced," providing a secure and safe environment for children to play, giving parents peace of mind.
Clean and Accessible Bathrooms: Visitors consistently highlight the availability of "bathrooms that are accessible and clean," which is a crucial amenity for families spending extended time at the park, especially with the splash pad.
Ample Seating with Shade: The park offers "plenty of seating, some with umbrellas for shade," allowing parents and guardians to relax comfortably while supervising children, even without needing their own bathing suits.
Mobile Food Vendors: The occasional presence of an "ice cream truck parked and serving ice cream" adds a delightful convenience and treat option for visitors, enhancing the overall park experience.
Baseball Parks/Fields: Beyond the playground and splash park, Elwood Park also includes "baseball parks" or fields, offering space for organized sports or casual games, catering to a broader range of recreational interests.
Walking Areas and Exercise Spots: The park provides general walking areas and potentially "exercise spots for kids," encouraging physical activity and exploration within its green spaces.
Elwood Park in Huntington stands out for several key features and highlights that make it a premier destination for families on Long Island:
Renowned Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park: This state-of-the-art splash pad is undoubtedly the star attraction. It's not just a collection of sprinklers but offers "lots of water splash sections" for interactive play, making it a favorite for children seeking relief from the summer heat. Its dedication to a fallen sergeant adds a layer of community pride.
Safety-First Playground Design: The playground is "fully enclosed" or "fenced," providing a secure environment that gives parents peace of mind while their children explore and play. This safety feature is highly valued by families.
Clean and Convenient Facilities: The availability of "accessible and clean bathrooms" is a major highlight, especially for a park with a water feature. This essential amenity significantly enhances the comfort and convenience of a family visit.
Thoughtful Seating and Shade: The park's provision of "plenty of seating, some with umbrellas for shade," demonstrates a user-centric design. This allows parents to comfortably supervise their children without needing to stand in the sun, enhancing the overall experience.
Generally Uncrowded Atmosphere: Despite its excellent features, visitors often note that the playground is "nice tucked away" and "rarely crowded." Even the splash park, while attracting a "decent amount of kids," maintains enough room to move around, which is a significant advantage over more densely packed attractions.
Community Card Access System: The requirement of a recreational card for the splash park, obtainable at town hall, ensures that the amenity primarily serves local residents, maintaining a community feel and managing crowds effectively.
Additional Recreational Spaces: Beyond the splash pad and playground, the inclusion of "baseball parks" (fields) broadens the park's appeal, catering to older children and adults interested in sports.
As a public park managed by the Town of Huntington, Elwood Park does not typically run commercial "promotions" or "special offers." Its primary purpose is to provide accessible recreational facilities to the community. However, its attributes can be considered continuous "offers" or benefits for locals:
Affordable Summer Fun: The park offers a high-quality splash pad experience at a minimal cost (often just the fee for the recreation card, if any, and potentially a small annual fee for its use) or, during heatwaves, the recreation card requirement may even be waived, providing a fantastic and affordable way for families to stay cool during the summer.
Free Playground Access: The "tucked away" and "fully enclosed" playground is typically free to use, offering a safe and engaging play space for children year-round (weather permitting).
Inclusive Access (Recreation Card): While requiring a card, the system itself ensures controlled access, often prioritizing Huntington residents, thus offering a dedicated recreational opportunity for local families. Information suggests the card can be obtained at town hall.
Convenience of On-Site Amenities: The presence of clean, accessible bathrooms and the occasional ice cream truck are convenient "offers" that enhance the visitor experience, making a trip to the park more comfortable and enjoyable without additional planning.
Contribution to Community Well-being: The park, and especially the Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park, serves as a community tribute, offering a sense of local pride and a space for community gathering, which is a valuable non-monetary "promotion" of local spirit.
For the most up-to-date information regarding spray park operating hours (which are seasonal), any fees for the recreation card, or special announcements (e.g., waived card requirements during heatwaves), it is highly recommended to contact the Town of Huntington Department of Parks & Recreation or check their official website.
For inquiries regarding Elwood Park, particularly its spray park and recreation card requirements, the primary contact would be the local municipal body overseeing parks and recreation.

Elwood Park Reviews
Nice tucked away playground that rarely crowded. Spray park is a good tribute to a fallen sergeant. Fully enclosed
Jul 04, 2024 · ThelionheartedoneSo happy I found this splash park! You’re able to use it with a recreational card which you can get at the town hall!Decent amount of kids, lots of water splash sections for kids. There’s also bathrooms that are accessible and clean. The ice cream truck was parked and serving ice cream for the 2 hours I was there!Parents don’t need to have their bathing suits in. There’s plenty of seating some with umbrellas for shade!
Aug 08, 2023 · Michael & Carolyna BuchbinderIt's a huge park complete with an outdoor gym and a Children's Waterpark which was well kept and clean.
Jun 01, 2025 · Mario Ogno JrThis is a review of the new splash pad. Was pleasantly surprised. Our two children 4 and 1/2 year old boy and 16 month old girl both had fun. Not incredibly crowded which was nice, and although it seemed filled with kids there was room to move around. Took one star off just because I feel they could (or should) have a small area for small children/infants. Some of the kids are much bigger and when running through water they could accidentally bump into a small child. Otherwise good flow and happy that it is fenced in. Bring your kids and a beach chair(very limited seeing inside the area). Or just stand and splash around with your little ones. Make sure you get the card to access the park at town hall!
Jul 16, 2018 · John PanicolaGreat spray park for mostly younger ones. The design is beautiful and the dedication to officer Tuozzollo was a wonderful tribute to a fallen hero.
