Fountain Motel 101 Introduce
For New Jersey residents and travelers seeking a no-frills, highly budget-conscious, and functional place to stay in the North Bergen area with proximity to New York City, the Fountain Motel 101 aims to provide a straightforward lodging option. While it's crucial to acknowledge that guest experiences can vary significantly, with some expressing considerable dissatisfaction, the motel primarily caters to those prioritizing extreme affordability and a basic place to rest over extensive amenities or luxury.
Located strategically in North Bergen, the Fountain Motel 101's primary draw for some travelers is its economical price point and its geographical position, which offers access to the wider metropolitan area. It's important for potential guests to set realistic expectations: this is a motel designed for essential overnight stays, and feedback suggests it may be best suited for those seeking the most basic accommodations available in the region. Understanding these limitations is key to a potentially satisfactory experience at Fountain Motel 101.
The Fountain Motel 101 is situated on Columbia Avenue in North Bergen, NJ 07047, USA. This location places it within a well-trafficked area of North Bergen, offering some level of accessibility to the broader transportation network. While specific details on its immediate surroundings are limited in the provided information, its location in North Bergen implies connections to major roadways.
North Bergen, as a municipality, is known for its proximity to New York City. Guests staying in this area can often access Manhattan via various public transportation options, including NJ Transit buses that operate along major avenues like Tonnelle Avenue, which is typically not far from Columbia Avenue. These bus routes provide connections to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan, making it possible to visit New York City attractions without the need for a personal vehicle.
For those traveling by car, its address on Columbia Avenue would offer relatively straightforward access to routes leading to the Lincoln Tunnel and other major highways, facilitating travel throughout Northern New Jersey and into New York. The area around North Bergen also features local businesses, dining options, and essential services, which might be accessible from the motel, though the ease of access would depend on the exact block on Columbia Avenue. Parking is often a consideration for motels, and while not specified in the provided reviews, motels of this nature often offer on-site parking for guests, which is a key accessibility feature in a metropolitan area.
Based on the provided, albeit critical, customer reviews, the Fountain Motel 101 appears to offer a very limited set of services, primarily focusing on providing a basic overnight stay. From the feedback, the primary service provided is simply a room for sleeping.
- Overnight Accommodations: The core service is providing a room for guests to sleep.
- Reception/Front Desk: There is a "man at the reception" who handles check-in and check-out. The quality of this service, based on reviews, is a significant concern.
- Room Access: Guests are provided keys or access to a room, though there was an incident where guests were "kicked out as if we hadn't paid" while waiting for an Uber after their time was up, indicating a strict adherence to check-out times and a lack of flexibility.
It is important to note that typical amenities commonly found in hotels, such as daily housekeeping (beyond the initial room preparation), breakfast, Wi-Fi, in-room appliances (coffee makers, microwaves, refrigerators), or fitness centers, are not mentioned positively or at all in the provided reviews, and in fact, some reviews implicitly suggest a lack of such comforts. The reviews highlight issues with basic infrastructure, such as "2 of the 4 elevators were out of order and the 2 that did work did so barely," and "Rooms smelt dirty," indicating that the focus is on providing only the most fundamental shelter.
Given the extremely negative nature of the reviews regarding staff interaction and basic facility functionality, potential guests should not expect a comprehensive range of services beyond the very minimum required for an overnight stay.
Based on the highly critical customer reviews, identifying positive "features" or "highlights" for Fountain Motel 101 is challenging, as the provided information focuses almost exclusively on negative aspects. However, from a purely factual, functional perspective, and understanding the context of budget lodging, one could infer:
- Location: The motel is physically located on Columbia Avenue in North Bergen, NJ. For some, any accessible lodging in this area might be considered a feature, particularly if proximity to specific points of interest in North Bergen or access to New York City is paramount.
- Budget-Friendly (Implicit): While not explicitly stated as a highlight, the context of the reviews ("This motel is the worst that exists in the area. This motel is for the homeless seeking a place to sleep" and "didn't waste much money on") strongly implies that its defining characteristic is a very low price point. For individuals with extremely limited budgets, this might be the only "feature" that makes it a viable option.
- Basic Shelter: At its most fundamental, the motel offers a physical space for sleeping. This provides shelter, which for some, is the primary requirement.
- Lobby (Potentially): One reviewer mentioned, "Lobby is the nicest part of the hotel," suggesting that the lobby area might present a more appealing initial impression compared to other parts of the property.
It is critical to contextualize these "features" within the overwhelmingly negative feedback provided. The reviews indicate significant issues with cleanliness ("Rooms smelt dirty," "stained sheets"), functionality ("2 of the 4 elevators were out of order," "showerhead when we moved it would wobble"), comfort ("A pile of rocks would be more comfortable than the beds"), and customer service ("the man at the reception is rude," "kicked us out as if we hadn't paid"). These issues largely overshadow any potential functional highlights.
Given the nature of the reviews provided for Fountain Motel 101, which describe it in extremely negative terms and even suggest it is primarily used by individuals "seeking a place to sleep" (implying potentially social service or voucher-based stays), it is highly unlikely that this motel publicly advertises traditional "promotions or special offers" in the way a typical hotel chain might.
Motels operating at such a basic, budget-end of the spectrum, and facing such critical feedback, typically do not run marketing campaigns with discounts, loyalty programs, or package deals. Their "offer" is usually simply their baseline low price.
However, if any form of "special offer" were to exist, it would most likely be:
- Lowest Possible Rate: The primary "promotion" is the lowest possible per-night rate in the area for basic shelter. This caters to an extremely price-sensitive market.
- Voucher-Based Stays: As one review mentioned, "Thankfully we had a voucher from a timeshare sales pitch that we used for this dump," suggesting that the motel might accept vouchers from third-party programs or social services, which would effectively be a form of "promotion" for those who qualify.
- Last-Minute or Walk-in Rates: In the absence of online promotions, some very budget motels might offer slightly reduced rates for walk-in guests or desperate last-minute bookings if they have availability.
It is highly improbable that the Fountain Motel 101 would have any publicly advertised seasonal deals, loyalty programs, or discounts comparable to mainstream hotel chains. The "offer" is simply the provision of extremely affordable, no-frills lodging. For actual pricing, direct contact with the motel would be necessary.
The provided information for Fountain Motel 101 only includes its address. No phone number (either standard or mobile) was given in the context you provided.
- Address: Columbia Ave, North Bergen, NJ 07047, USA
Given the lack of phone numbers in the provided details, direct contact might be limited to visiting the location in person. In the absence of a phone number, inquiries about availability, rates, or specific concerns would need to be made by physically going to the motel. This also means that online booking channels might not be readily available or widely used for this particular establishment.
For New Jersey residents considering the Fountain Motel 101, it is essential to approach this lodging option with a very specific and limited set of expectations, given the overwhelmingly negative customer feedback. When evaluating its "suitability for locals," it becomes clear that this motel would only be considered for very niche circumstances, specifically when extreme budget constraints are the absolute priority.
The sole aspect of suitability for locals appears to be its likely rock-bottom pricing. In a high-cost metropolitan area like North Bergen, where lodging can be expensive, the Fountain Motel 101 might represent one of the cheapest available options for an overnight stay. For individuals facing severe financial limitations, or those in emergency situations where only the most basic and affordable shelter is required, this motel might fulfill the fundamental need for a roof over one's head.
Its location on Columbia Avenue in North Bergen does provide a physical presence in the area, offering a spot for overnight accommodation. For New Jersey residents who absolutely cannot afford any other type of lodging, or who are accessing the motel through specific social service vouchers (as hinted by one review), it might serve as a last-resort option.
However, it is critically important to underscore that, based on the provided customer reviews, this suitability comes with severe caveats. The consistent reports of "terrible service," "rude" staff, cleanliness issues ("Rooms smelt dirty," "stained sheets"), non-functional amenities ("elevators were out of order"), and uncomfortable conditions ("A pile of rocks would be more comfortable than the beds") indicate that a stay at Fountain Motel 101 would be a deeply unpleasant experience for the vast majority of travelers.
Therefore, for New Jersey locals, the Fountain Motel 101 is suitable only in the most extreme scenarios where budget is the only consideration and all other typical expectations for comfort, cleanliness, and respectful service have been completely suspended. For any other purpose, locals are strongly advised to explore alternative lodging options in the North Bergen and surrounding areas, which are likely to offer a more satisfactory and comfortable experience.

Avoid by all means. This motel is the worst that exists in the area. This motel is for the homeless seeking a place to sleep
May 16, 2025 · ILAN GOLDMANThe service from the staff is terrible, the man at the reception is rude and does not know how to treat people, When the time was up we were waiting for the Uber and he didn't let us wait in the room and kicked us out as if we hadn't paid.
Dec 23, 2024 · julian rinconMost of the people who work there are very nice only one person who works at the desk is nasty
Feb 19, 2025 · Rita WilliamsI found an underwear and a lighter under the pillow. Definitely, they didn't change the blankets
Nov 05, 2024 · alex lozadaIf I could not give any starts would’ve been better. The staff is dismissive the rooms filled with Roaches. Had to stay here on an emergency and they even switched my room cause one of the beds had blood all over the sheets. Then they switched us to a room that the only thing clean was the beds. Roaches everywhere. Crayons on the walls pieces of weave stuck to the baseboards. The toilet street was held together by electrical tape. I took video of it. The guy in the front said you sleep in the room no refund deal with it. That cause me to slam the keys on the floor upon me checking out and for $140 not even worth it. Unfortunately there was no other vacancy available in the area and my kids were exhausted!
