Greenbrook Nature Sanctuary (Membership Required) Introduce
For those of us living in the bustling state of New Jersey, finding truly pristine and peaceful natural spaces can feel like discovering a hidden treasure. The Greenbrook Nature Sanctuary, nestled along the magnificent Palisades in Tenafly, NJ, is precisely that – a hidden gem that offers an unparalleled retreat into the natural world. Unlike many public parks, Greenbrook operates on a membership-only basis, a unique model that underpins its primary mission: the dedicated conservation and preservation of this remarkable 165-acre woodland. This exclusivity ensures a tranquil and uncrowded experience, allowing nature to flourish and visitors to immerse themselves fully in its serene beauty.
Greenbrook is more than just a hiking area; it's a living classroom and a testament to sustained environmental stewardship. Managed by the Palisades Nature Association, a non-profit organization founded in 1946, the sanctuary actively promotes a deep appreciation for the scenic and historical significance of the Palisades' natural terrain. It encourages the study of the local flora, fauna, and geological formations, making every visit an opportunity for discovery and learning. Reviewers consistently praise its well-maintained trails, diverse ecosystems, and the dedication of its naturalists who conduct a variety of educational and observatory events year-round.
This article will provide a comprehensive overview of Greenbrook Nature Sanctuary, detailing its location and how to access this exclusive space, the services and unique features it offers, and why becoming a member is a truly worthwhile investment for New Jersey locals seeking a deeper connection with nature.

Greenbrook Nature Sanctuary (Membership Required) Reviews
Like many people in the pandemic, I found Greenbrook while trying to be closer to nature. It is a hidden gem nestled away along the Palisades. It is a membership only Park as the focus is primarily on conversation of the land through funds. It has a number of well maintained hiking trails and ample parking is available inside the park. Members are mailed a key that goes with the lock on the gate. A membership form can be found on the gate or at the Palisades interstate parkway website. The park naturalists' conduct many hiking and observatory events year round. Greenbrook has a special place in my heart and has some beautiful views and vistas along it's trails. It's a very exclusive park for those who want to return and be involved at a deeper level.
Jul 05, 2022 · Param BhagiaNature preserve full of scenic trails. Variety of native animals, trees, amphibians, and birds. Dedicated naturist maintains and have programs explaining the ecosystem and conducts nature walks. It’s accessible to members only.
Jun 09, 2022 · F ChiangMembership only nature sanctuary. Requires annual membership. Uses locked gate for entry. It's small with strangely named trails by alphabetical letter. Great views on top of the Palisades cliffs. Just be careful you don't fall!
Nov 26, 2020 · The Great ArtisteGreat place to come and walk around kind of reconnect with nature even though you're in the hustle and bustle of the New York metro area. My family has maintained a membership for over 50 years and it's worth every bit of money to be able to see the sites it's close to New York.
Oct 31, 2020 · K. MichaelBeing a Manhattanite with no car I’ve only ever visited by kayak or paddle board. And despite it making for a very long day—the voyage is a 25 mile roundtrip from my launch point at the Pier 84 boathouse, home of Manhattan Kayak Company—it is one of my favorite destinations. My favorite spot is Greenbrook Falls, despite it not being the easiest of landings on windy days (the beach is rocky there). The falls are especially beautiful in spring when we are getting a lot of rain and the forest is greening up.
