Group Sites 1 & 2 are situated at Dennytown Rd, Putnam Valley, NY 10579, USA. This location places them within the scenic Putnam Valley area, offering a convenient escape from the hustle and bustle of more urban parts of New York. For those coming from New York City and surrounding boroughs, Putnam Valley is a manageable drive, making it an accessible option for a weekend or extended group camping trip.
While the address provides a clear geographical marker, it's important for prospective campers to be aware of the site's unique accessibility. While you can drive to the general vicinity, access to the actual camping sites (Site #1 and Site #2) requires a walk. There is no direct car access up to the specific tent pitching areas. Instead, campers will need to walk their gear approximately 500 feet from the parking lot to the designated group sites. This walk, while manageable, should be factored into your packing and planning, especially when coordinating with a large group and all their camping essentials. The slightly more remote access contributes to the feeling of being truly immersed in nature, away from vehicle noise and traffic. The parking lot itself is conveniently located and provides access to essential amenities like a functional spigot for water and a dumpster for garbage disposal, ensuring a relatively clean and organized camping experience despite the walk to the sites.
Group Sites 1 & 2 are designed with group functionality in mind, offering several key services to facilitate a comfortable and enjoyable stay:
- Dedicated Group Camping Areas: The sites are specifically allocated and sized to accommodate large parties, providing ample space for numerous tents and communal gathering.
- Large Fire Pit: Each group site features a sizable fire pit, perfect for bonfires, storytelling, and keeping warm on cooler evenings.
- Double-Sized Charcoal Grill: For all your group cooking needs, a large, double-sized charcoal grill is available, making meal preparation efficient and enjoyable for many people.

- Garbage Disposal (at parking lot): A dumpster is conveniently located near the parking lot for easy and responsible garbage disposal.
- Ample Tent Pitching Space: The sites offer a generous amount of clear space, allowing large groups to set up multiple tents without feeling crowded.
What truly sets Group Sites 1 & 2 apart for local New York users are their distinctive features, designed to cater specifically to large group camping needs:
- Ideal for Large Groups: The primary highlight is the sheer capacity and layout, making it an excellent choice for substantial gatherings like family reunions, youth group retreats, or large friend excursions. Customer reviews consistently praise its suitability for big groups, with one mentioning a successful stay with approximately 25 people.
- Expansive Area for Tents: Unlike individual campsites, these group sites offer a sprawling area, ensuring everyone in your party has sufficient room to pitch their tents comfortably without encroaching on others' space.
- Centralized Communal Facilities: The presence of a huge fire pit and a double-sized charcoal grill right at the site fosters a strong sense of community and shared experience, allowing for easy group cooking and campfire gatherings.
- Secluded, Natural Setting: Despite being accessible from the New York metropolitan area, the walk-in nature of the sites and their location in Putnam Valley provide a genuine feeling of being away from it all, surrounded by nature.
- Practical Amenities for Group Logistics: The availability of a water spigot and a dumpster near the parking area, though a short walk, are crucial practicalities that support larger group camping, minimizing the need to transport water or waste over long distances.
- Rustic Charm with Essential Comforts: The sites offer a balance between a true wilderness experience and the convenience of having essential amenities like a substantial grill and fire pit, making it appealing to those who appreciate a less developed camping experience but still desire certain comforts.

Group Sites 1 & 2 Reviews
Great for big groups! Large area to pitch many tents. Huge fire pit for nice fire on theose cold nights. Huge double sized charcoal grill. We stayed on site #2. It's quite a walk from the street. There is no access by car up to the actual site. You have to walk your gear up about 500 feet. There is no running water at the site however there is a functional spigot down by the parking lot. There is a dumpster for garbage by the parking lot too. We enjoyed our time as a group of about 25 people. I would recommend this place for a group visit.
Oct 16, 2022 · Chol KimWould be a lot nicer if you could still bring cars up. Now it's a hassle especially when you have a lot of people. Nice sights though.
Aug 06, 2019 · TheB ManWent on a Sunday night. Had the whole place to myself. Didn't need a reservation.
