North Shore Esplanade Park

300 Richmond Ter, Staten Island, NY 10301, USA

4.0
I had not planned on writing a review for this park but Google asked me how it was so I figured why not go ahead and do it. I drove a group in a school bus up to the ferry terminal for them to head over into New York City for the day and parked here for a little bit before trying to decide what to do and since Google saw that I was here I guess they wanted my opinion about it. Not being much of a city person at all, it is not the kind of place that I would ever think about visiting just for a relaxing day, although if there were not so many trees looking out over the water it might have been a little bit nicer as you would be able to better see the New York City. Skyline and all the ships passing as well as possibly even being able to see the Statue of Liberty. I had attempted to walk down to the 911 memorial that was about a half mile away but because I have some bad knees after about a quarter mile I gave up and came back and left the area. It was a good spot to pull the bus over to be able to try to see what else was in the area to do while I was waiting to pick up the group which was part of the reason I tried to walk up to the monument but I guess I will find something else to do now instead. - Theophilus I

North Shore Esplanade Park Introduce

For many New Yorkers, the quest for a peaceful respite from the city's relentless energy often leads to unexpected discoveries. On Staten Island's vibrant North Shore, nestled along Richmond Terrace, lies the North Shore Esplanade Park. While it might not fit the conventional image of a sprawling park with playgrounds and vast green fields, it offers a distinct and valuable slice of outdoor enjoyment for locals and visitors alike. This linear waterfront space is a testament to the diverse ways New York City provides its residents with access to nature, views, and a moment of tranquility.

The North Shore Esplanade Park is part of a larger vision for the revitalization of Staten Island's waterfront. The area surrounding the St. George Ferry Terminal and extending along the North Shore has seen significant investment in creating public access and enhancing the pedestrian experience. This esplanade serves as a vital component of that vision, providing a pathway and viewpoint that connects residents to the working harbor and the iconic sights of New York City. It's a place that blends the urban fabric with natural beauty, allowing for a unique perspective on the city's dynamic maritime activity and its stunning skyline. Whether you're a commuter catching the ferry, a local out for a stroll, or someone simply seeking a quiet spot to observe the world go by, the Esplanade offers a refreshing change of pace and scenery.

Location and Accessibility

North Shore Esplanade Park is conveniently located at 300 Richmond Ter, Staten Island, NY 10301, USA. This address places it directly along the waterfront, easily accessible from the St. George neighborhood of Staten Island. Its strategic position makes it a natural stop for those commuting via the Staten Island Ferry or exploring the vibrant North Shore.

Accessibility is a key advantage of this park. For those using public transportation, the St. George Ferry Terminal is just a stone's throw away, making it incredibly easy to reach from Manhattan via the iconic (and free) Staten Island Ferry. The terminal also serves as a major hub for numerous Staten Island bus routes, ensuring seamless connectivity from various parts of the borough. The Staten Island Railway (SIR) also terminates at St. George, providing another convenient rail option. For drivers, parking can be found in nearby public garages or on the street, though availability may vary, especially during peak ferry times. The park itself is designed as a waterside promenade, offering accessible pathways for pedestrians, making it easy for individuals with varying mobility levels to enjoy the views and stroll along the waterfront. Its linear layout encourages walking and offers continuous views as you move along the esplanade.
