Prospect Park Carousel Introduce
For those seeking a delightful escape into a bygone era right here in the heart of Brooklyn, the Prospect Park Carousel stands as a true local gem. This isn't just any merry-go-round; it's a meticulously preserved piece of New York's history, offering a whimsical experience that has captivated generations of Brooklynites and visitors alike. With its vibrant colors, intricate carvings, and the nostalgic melodies of a classic Wurlitzer organ, a ride on this carousel is more than just entertainment – it's a cherished memory in the making.
Dating back to 1912, the Prospect Park Carousel retains all the charm of its original design. It's truly remarkable how this over 113-year-old attraction continues to bring smiles to faces, much like it did over a century ago. Many of the horses are stationary, while others gracefully move up and down, offering a choice for every rider. While signs kindly request adults to opt for the stationary figures, the sheer joy of the up-and-down motion often proves irresistible to all ages. Located conveniently near the entrance to the Prospect Park Zoo, it's a perfect addition to a day out exploring the park's many wonders.
The Prospect Park Carousel is nestled within Prospect Park’s Children's Corner, a beloved area known for its family-friendly attractions. Its physical address is 452 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11225, USA, making it easily accessible for anyone in the New York metropolitan area. You can find it close to the Prospect Park Zoo entrance, making it a convenient stop on a family outing.
Getting to the carousel is straightforward thanks to New York City's extensive public transportation network. Numerous subway lines and bus routes serve the Prospect Park area, with the Willink entrance (at the intersection of Empire Boulevard, Ocean Avenue, and Flatbush Avenue) being a common entry point that leads directly to the Children's Corner. For those driving, street parking can be found in the surrounding neighborhoods, though it's always advisable to check local parking regulations.
One of the most commendable aspects of the Prospect Park Carousel is its commitment to accessibility. It stands out as one of the few carousels in the entire nation that is wheelchair accessible, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to experience the joy of a classic carousel ride. This dedication to inclusivity truly makes it a welcoming spot for all members of our community.

Prospect Park Carousel Reviews
It's a 113 year old carousel that still retains its old charm from so long ago. Definitely worth a ride if you're in the area. Some of the horses are stationary and some move up and down, there are signs that request that adults keep to the stationary ones, but everyone was riding on the moving horses anyway.
May 01, 2025 · Christopher ZanA lovely carousel near the entrance to the prospect Park zoo. Next to the children's zoo entrance. $3 per rider.
May 20, 2025 · B AllanThe carousels are very nice, but unfortunately the opening hours are not family-friendly. Most kids nap during that time, and by the time you arrive, they’re already closed. It’s hard to understand why they close as early as 5 PM — please consider extending the hours so more families with young children can enjoy them!
May 18, 2025 · Oksana PeterOne of my and my granddaughter’s favorite spots in Prospect Park. This is one of the most affordable pieces of history in the area right next to the ZOO and not far from the Botanic Garden. Open from Spring till Fall.

It was carved in 1912 by Charles Carmel.Such a sweet and fun thing to do on any day. Be sure to prepare your little one as there can be some wait times on the weekends but it’s never too long. The ride itself is about 3 mins I would say. With music and lights that creates a magical experience. You can also rent for private events such as birthdays. I believe it’s 475$ Monday thru Friday and then $575 Saturday and Sunday. It’s a little less if you choose not to be a private event. But it’s a great place to have a birthday celebration for any age.
