Features / Highlights:
- Dedicated and Cheerful Staff: A significant highlight, as per a customer review: "The staff is what makes this place great. We had an incredibly cheerful check-in, even though it was late at night, and super helpful with maps and clear directions. Morning staff was bright and sunshiny, and they put extra personal effort and detail into things." This indicates a strong positive point regarding customer service.
- Pet-Friendly Amenities: The hotel appears to go above and beyond for guests with pets, offering "treats and gifts and special things to make life easier for pet owners."
- Suite-Style Accommodations: As a Residence Inn, it features suites with separate living and sleeping areas, and typically full kitchens, catering to extended stays and family travel.
Concerns Noted in Reviews:
- Odor Issues: "Hallway smells like mold." This suggests potential maintenance or ventilation problems.
- Air Conditioning Concerns: "They do not have central air. They have non commercial qualified window units in bedrooms." This indicates a potentially less comfortable cooling experience, especially in warmer weather.
- Mold and Mildew: "There was mold and mildew in the bathrooms of our two bedroom suite." This is a significant concern regarding cleanliness and hygiene.
- Lighting Issues: "None of the living room lights worked." Points to maintenance oversight within suites.
- Customer Service Issues (Management): Allegations of a manager claiming "cannot refund you for the significant discount paying in advance" and suggestions to "Just call Marriott corporate," coupled with claims that "The manager just won’t because it affects her bottom line on hotel performance," indicate serious issues with management's handling of guest complaints and refunds. There's also a statement that management "gets shuffled around hotels," which could imply systemic issues.

The Residence Inn Saddle River presents a mixed bag for locals, whether they are considering it for out-of-town guests or for personal use during home renovations or temporary relocations. On the one hand, the hotel's suitability for locals is significantly boosted by the positive feedback regarding its staff. "The staff is what makes this place great," with "incredibly cheerful check-in" and "super helpful with maps and clear directions." This indicates a strong, welcoming front-line team that can greatly enhance a guest's experience and provide valuable local insights, a definite plus for visitors to our New Jersey area. The explicit mention of being "pet-friendly" with special amenities for animal owners is also a major advantage for New Jersey residents who travel with their furry companions.
On the other hand, the concerns raised by a reviewer about the physical condition of the suites—specifically "hallway smells like mold," "non commercial qualified window units," and "mold and mildew in the bathrooms"—are significant drawbacks that locals would want to consider. The reported issues with non-working lights and the severe allegations regarding management's handling of refunds and corporate transparency are also serious red flags. While the brand concept of extended-stay suites with kitchens is inherently appealing for locals needing temporary lodging or for hosting long-term guests, the factual issues about facility maintenance and certain managerial practices temper this appeal. Therefore, while the helpful staff and pet-friendly policy are strong positives, potential guests should be aware of the reported maintenance and management challenges, perhaps even calling the hotel directly to inquire about recent renovations or specific room conditions before booking, particularly if considering an extended stay for themselves or their guests in Northern New Jersey.

Residence Inn Saddle River Reviews
Hallway smells like mold. They do not have central air. They have non commercial qualified window units in bedrooms. There was mold and mildew in the bathrooms of our two bedroom suite. None of the living room lights worked. The manager claims we were there for 3 nights when we left immediately and she didn’t even care to reach out until 2 days later. Do NOT stay here. I have never said this but the Hampton inn in Mahwah is ten times better and at least clean.Further update the manager will lie to you and say they cannot I repeat “cannot” refund you for the significant discount paying in advance of 15 a day. Just call Marriott corporate. They’ll respect you and take care of you and you’ll find out this isn’t an isolated incident and this management team gets shuffled around hotels. Oh and fun fact they can refund you. The manager just won’t because it affects her bottom line on hotel performance.
May 20, 2025 · Marc BThe staff is what makes this place great. We had an incredibly cheerful check-in, even though it was late at night, and super helpful with maps and clear directions. Morning staff was bright and sunshiny, and they put extra personal effort and detail into things. We don't actually have pets, but the treats and gifts and special things to make life easier for pet owners look like they would be super helpful, too!
Feb 02, 2025 · E. ChappellStephanie and Val are some of the worst customer service people I have ever encountered. Have some empathy or you shouldn't be working in customer service. You'll have a better stay in a tent behind McDonald's. Place puts on a front for being nice, then proceed to give you issues when you ask for accommodations. Don't recommend going here unless you want to be talked to like a child. They don't even tell you about the parking fee when you check in, you hear about it after the fact when they get their greasy hands on your money. Shame on y'all. BE BETTER.
Mar 08, 2025 · MelMy wife and I came to this location Saturday 5/17 to Sunday 5/18. When we 1st arrived, our card wouldn't open the door although the indicator light on the lock turned green so we were let in to our room by a nice guy named Hugo. He said it looks like the lock needs a battery change. I said to him my wife and I will be going back out in a couple of minutes so that would be perfect. Later on that night at about 11pm'ish we get back from our date night. We stopped at the front desk to have them reset the cards to make sure there is no issue from the batteries being changed so the front desk guy resets the keys and we go to our room. The key would not work so again we had to wait for someone to come and let us in. They told us that if we plan to go out anymore we would need to let the staff let us in. We decided to stay in the rest of the night. Next day at about 9:45am someone is banging on our door so we went to answer and there was a lady asking if we are checking out today. I said yes we are, then I asked isn't check at 12noon? She said yes. Frustrated my wife and I went to lay back down so that we can enjoy the little bit of time we had left. About 10 minutes later we hear someone messing with the lock and trying to come in. I jumped out of bed and saw a man trying to come in so I opened the door and some man is asking me if there is something wrong with the lock and I said yes but we are checking out today so come back after, but his response was I will be back in 10 minutes. My wife and I were so annoyed that we packed up, didnt even brush our teeth and left. I went to the front desk to check out and told them everything that happened and the lady at the front desk said, oh I am so sorry, have a good day and that's it. It did not phase her one bit that we had such a horrible stay at this place. Very disappointed. Never again! Never ever! And the toilet had to be flushed 2 times with each use.
May 18, 2025 · Alex GonzalezNice place but staff rude and not helpful. Asked for a final receipt when I checked out for expense purposes and was told they can't print one because I booked through a third party? They had my CC on file and ran incidentals yet couldn't supply receipt? Both at front desk were cocky and rude. I don't know, maybe it is a New Jersey thing. It was my first time here. I travel all over America for work and live out of hotels. Very disappointing.
