Richard Presser Park Introduce
Richard Presser Park, situated at 218 N Central Ave, Hartsdale, NY 10530, USA, stands as a beloved and versatile Scenic Spot within the town of Greenburgh, Westchester County. This park is more than just a green space; it's a dynamic community hub that caters to a wide range of interests, from active sports and family recreation to quiet contemplation and community events. Its accessibility and diverse offerings make it a cherished resource for local residents and a welcoming destination for visitors.
The environment of Richard Presser Park is thoughtfully designed to blend natural beauty with functional recreational areas. It's often described by visitors as "beautiful" and "cozy," offering a relaxing atmosphere within a "safe and good neighborhood." The park's layout typically includes expansive open fields, well-maintained sports facilities, and dedicated spaces for children's play.
One of the park's distinguishing features, particularly in spring, is the presence of cherry blossoms, which add a vibrant splash of color and create a picturesque setting for visitors. Shaded areas with seating are strategically placed, allowing individuals and families to relax comfortably even on sunny days. The general ambiance is one of community vibrancy, with families playing, sports enthusiasts engaging in friendly competition, and individuals enjoying peaceful moments. The cleanliness of the park is frequently noted, contributing to a pleasant and inviting environment for all. While Richard Presser Park does not directly border a major natural feature like a river or a large forest, its well-landscaped grounds and thoughtful design create an appealing urban green space that is highly valued by the community. The overall design prioritizes both active use and passive enjoyment, ensuring that there's a space for everyone.
As a key Scenic Spot for recreation in Hartsdale, Richard Presser Park offers a comprehensive range of services and amenities designed to cater to various age groups and interests. These services are provided by the Town of Greenburgh Department of Parks and Recreation, ensuring the park's accessibility and maintenance for public use.
Key recreational services and facilities include:
Baseball Field: A well-maintained field for baseball games and practices, popular with local leagues and casual players.
Cricket Field: A dedicated space for cricket, reflecting the diverse cultural fabric of the community. This is a significant feature as cricket fields are not common in all municipal parks.
Kids Playground: Modern and safe play equipment designed for children of various ages, providing a fun and engaging environment for younger visitors.
Seating Areas: Benches and shaded spots are available throughout the park, offering comfortable places for parents to supervise children, for individuals to read, or for groups to gather and socialize.
Paths for Walking/Strolling: While not an extensive trail system, the park features pathways suitable for leisurely walks, making it ideal for those seeking light exercise or a pleasant stroll.
Parking: Ample free parking is available, as mentioned in promotional materials for events, making the park easily accessible by car.
Beyond daily recreational use, Richard Presser Park also serves as a venue for various community events. These can include annual flea markets to benefit local scholarship funds, artists and crafters markets showcasing local talent, and larger events like the Hartsdale Kiwanis Carnival during Labor Day weekend. These events often feature food vendors, games, and entertainment, transforming the park into a vibrant festival ground. The park’s ability to host such diverse events underscores its role as a dynamic public space.
For direct inquiries regarding park facilities, event scheduling, or general information, the Town of Greenburgh Department of Parks and Recreation can be reached at (914) 989-1800 or +1 914-989-1800. While the park itself does not have "goods for sale" in a retail sense, it facilitates commerce during special events and contributes to the local economy by drawing visitors to the area.
Richard Presser Park holds several unique features that distinguish it as a prominent Scenic Spot in Hartsdale:
9/11 Memorial (Historical Context): The park historically housed a significant 9/11 memorial wall, dedicated in 2003, featuring over 1800 hand-painted tiles by county residents and a piece of metal from the World Trade Center. While this specific wall has recently been torn down due to structural issues and a new memorial is planned for a different location (likely Greenburgh Town Hall), its past presence highlights the park's role as a place of remembrance and community reflection. The eventual removal of the old memorial will create more open space within the park for residents.
Dual-Sport Fields (Cricket & Baseball): The provision of both a baseball and a cricket field is a unique offering that caters to the diverse athletic interests within the Greenburgh community, showcasing the town's commitment to inclusive recreational facilities.
Seasonal Beauty: The mention of "cherry blossoms" in the spring indicates the park's deliberate landscaping to enhance its aesthetic appeal throughout the year, making it particularly "beautiful" during bloom season.
Community Event Hub: Beyond daily use, the park consistently serves as a popular venue for large-scale community events, such as flea markets and carnivals, indicating its capacity and suitability for gathering large crowds and fostering local engagement.
Safe and Well-Maintained Environment: Consistent positive feedback from users regarding the park's cleanliness, beauty, and location in a "safe and good neighborhood" underscores its quality as a public space. This level of maintenance and perceived safety is a significant feature for families and individuals.
These features, combined with the park's accessible location on N Central Ave, contribute to its reputation as a well-rounded and valuable community asset.
Richard Presser Park is promoted as an ideal destination for family outings, sports activities, and community gatherings. Its reputation as a "beautiful" and "cozy" spot to "relax and to pass a good time with your kids" is a strong endorsement from local users.
The park is typically open daily from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, providing ample time for visitors to enjoy its amenities. These hours are generally consistent year-round, but it's always a good idea to confirm with the Town of Greenburgh's Parks and Recreation department, especially for holiday hours or special events.
Visitors can expect a clean, well-maintained park with a friendly atmosphere. It's an excellent choice for a family picnic, a leisurely stroll, or an active afternoon playing sports. The presence of a dedicated playground makes it particularly appealing for families with young children. During spring, the cherry blossoms offer a delightful visual treat. For those interested in attending specific events like the Artists and Crafters Market or the Kiwanis Carnival, checking local town announcements or event calendars is advisable, as these events provide unique opportunities to engage with the Hartsdale community and support local artisans and causes. Richard Presser Park truly embodies its role as a valuable Scenic Spot, enriching the lives of Hartsdale residents and offering a welcoming experience for all who visit.

Jun 26, 2022 · Jimmy ChingI love everything nature. Nice place for kids to play around especially early childhood pupil.
Jun 17, 2019 · Ron LawFor many years this was known as Webb field or park. It is simply wonderful. It is a great place to walk around. It's a splendid park to bring children. It's a perfect spot to bring a chair and enjoy the Sun. It has a very peaceful element to it although it's right on Central Avenue, which is pretty noisy at times. There's a lot of history here especially the Veteran Memorial. There was once a thriving school, which is now an office building. In the wintertime, it's a great place for sleigh riding. In the Spring the flowers are beautiful and the park for kids is wonderful. This has been a cornerstone park in Hartsdale for many years and it is still thriving. If you're ever in the area, please take a breath of fresh air and enjoy the view.
Mar 19, 2020 · C HNice neighborhood park with a baseball diamond and large field for playing Frisbee, etc. They built a cricket pitch. It's fun to sled there in winter.
