Roger Smith Hotel Introduce
New York City, a vibrant tapestry of culture, commerce, and innovation, constantly buzzes with an energy that captivates both long-time residents and first-time visitors. In a city renowned for its iconic skyline and diverse neighborhoods, finding accommodation that truly resonates with the New York spirit can elevate any stay. The Roger Smith Hotel, located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, has long stood as a unique and celebrated institution, known for its distinctive charm, artistic ambiance, and prime location. This article aims to provide a comprehensive and engaging look at the Roger Smith Hotel, detailing its exceptional positioning, the array of services and features it offers, and why it remains a compelling choice for New Yorkers seeking a memorable experience in their own remarkable city.
The Roger Smith Hotel has always been more than just a place to sleep; it has been a hub of creativity and a testament to independent hospitality in a city increasingly dominated by large chains. While some past reviews mention its unique, old-world charm, and even a temporary closure during the early 2020s, public information suggests the hotel has navigated these changes and continues to represent a distinctive option for those looking to immerse themselves in the authentic New York experience. We'll delve into what makes this hotel a special retreat, from its easy accessibility to its thoughtful amenities, ensuring that locals can see it as a perfect setting for a staycation, a business trip, or for hosting out-of-town guests.
The Roger Smith Hotel boasts an exceptional address: 501 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10017, USA. This places it strategically in Midtown East, an incredibly convenient and desirable neighborhood for anyone looking to experience the best of New York City. For New Yorkers, this means unparalleled access to some of the city's most significant landmarks and transportation arteries.
Just a short walk from the hotel is Grand Central Terminal, a magnificent architectural landmark and a major transportation hub. From here, you can seamlessly connect to numerous subway lines (including the 4, 5, 6, 7, and S shuttle trains) and the Metro-North commuter rail, making it remarkably easy to reach almost any part of the city or to travel to the surrounding suburbs. This connectivity is invaluable for both daily commutes and leisurely explorations.
Beyond Grand Central, the hotel's location offers effortless access to an array of iconic destinations. The majestic Chrysler Building is practically on its doorstep, and the United Nations Headquarters is just a few blocks east. Iconic attractions such as Times Square, the Theatre District, Rockefeller Center, and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) are all within a comfortable walking distance or a very short subway ride. Fifth Avenue’s renowned shopping is also just moments away. For those arriving from outside the city, the hotel’s central position simplifies journeys from New York’s major airports (JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark) via various public transit options or ride-sharing services. The vibrant atmosphere of Midtown East, combined with the hotel's strategic placement, ensures that guests spend less time in transit and more time enjoying everything the city has to offer.

Roger Smith Hotel Reviews
Stayed here a few times on my trips to NYC before they closed. By far the best hotel experience I’ve ever had in the city. And its old charm was like a time capsule from the 40’s. Beautiful red carpet, brass finishes, old style elevator, amazing rooftop bar great room sizes and comfort, everything about this place was awesome. Was very sad to see they closed shortly after Covid. I hope it’s new owners don’t change its rich historic charm.
Apr 26, 2025 · Manda MarquezThe hotel has a very good location. However the room are very noisy because of the neverending traffic. We had a Junior suit so we expected it to be a bit better. It was spacious but I was a bit disappointed with the bathroom, nothing what you see on the website, but small and old. The bed was very big and comfy. The room really needs a new carpet and curtain rods. The curtains aren't blackout. The breakfast here is a joke. Definitely not worth 12dollars. Better go to a nearby cafe.
Apr 06, 2019 · Aneta HavířováThe most comfortable beds and soft sheets, so glad we stayed here. Shower had a bathtub and super clean. Hot water is a little tricky but that's the neat part. Our room was in front of the elevator and we had a view of the city. It could be a little noisy for some, but you can turn the A/C on and sleep like a baby day and night. Hotel still provides toothbrushes, toothpaste and a sewing kit! You can tell the hotel has lots of history and it's neat to see the old style furniture. I'm glad it's kept like this!! Our first time in NY and everyone at the hotel was beyond helpful with directions to the city. We loved our stay here!
Jul 22, 2018 · Maria CerdaBooked a sightseeing trip to NY for my whole family. I read all the reviews before I booked and I can’t argue that the hotel is old and the rugs in the room could be replaced and one of my blinds didn’t work properly. However, the location is beyond excellent, the staff are friendly and helpful, the place had some great nostalgic charm, the beds were awesome, the shower was clean, and the price was by far below anything remotely close to to their competitors. The beds were clean and very comfortable, there was plenty of room and loved having a refrigerator and microwave for our restaurant leftovers. There is a Starbucks two doors down and a wakgreens across the street. They validate parking at the lot behind the hotel to a reduced rate and they held our bags on the day of checkout so we could enjoy our last day of sightseeing. Grand Central is a ten minute walk and 51st street station is a 4 minute walk.If you’re into everything being perfect in your room, then you need to spend a couple more hundred dollars a night or waste your sightseeing time taking a train into the city every day. However, if you want to come see the City and spend that savings on your experience’s out in town, this is the perfect place to stay.
Jan 11, 2022 · TeletectorGreat location in the city, near Gran Central Station. Small, artsy, familiy-owned hotel. We had a pleasant stay, staff members were very welcoming. They offer complimentary yogurt :)Rooms were clean, nice toiletries offered. Keep in mind the hotel is old, nothing modern, but very well kept. Our room had microwave and mini fridge, we stacked with snacks for our midnight cravings.
