Sans Souci County Park Introduce
For residents of Sayville, New York, and the wider Long Island community, finding a natural escape that offers both extensive trails and a touch of hidden charm is a true delight. Sans Souci County Park, located on Broadway Avenue in Sayville, NY 11782, USA, is precisely that kind of destination. Often described by locals as "deceptively big," this park provides a wonderful opportunity to immerse oneself in nature, offering a network of trails, unexpected natural features, and a welcoming environment for both families and their canine companions.
Sans Souci, meaning "without a care" in French, perfectly encapsulates the serene and unhurried experience visitors can find within its bounds. Despite its sometimes challenging navigability – with some visitors playfully admitting to getting lost – this adds to its adventurous appeal, leading to delightful discoveries like "little streams, some bridges and some gnome nests." The park's natural, somewhat wild character encourages exploration and provides a refreshing contrast to more manicured recreational spaces.
While the park is a year-round attraction, it holds particular appeal during the cooler months for "winter walks with the dog." Its diverse trails offer easy walking conditions, making it accessible for a wide range of visitors. However, as with any natural area, it’s important for visitors to be aware of seasonal considerations, such as the presence of ticks in warmer months. Nonetheless, Sans Souci County Park remains a cherished local gem, providing a vital green space for relaxation, exercise, and a genuine connection with Long Island's natural beauty.

While the main parking lot on Broadway Avenue is noted by some visitors as being "very small," there are alternative recommendations for parking. Public transportation options in Sayville typically include local bus services operated by Suffolk County Transit, and the Sayville Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station. However, visitors should be aware of a few considerations that might be relevant:
- Suffolk County Green Key Card: While Sans Souci County Park itself doesn't typically require a Green Key for entry or parking, a Green Key card (Suffolk County Parks' resident ID card) is beneficial for access to other Suffolk County Parks facilities and may offer discounts on certain programs or amenities at other locations. Sans Souci County Park Reviews
Deceptively big park. I manage to get lost every time I go with the kids. We have discovered a few little streams, some bridges and some gnome nests. Watch out also for the big turkeys. Dog friendly, kid friendly.
Apr 19, 2025 · jeanna masoneLove winter walks with the dog in this little county park. Lots of trails, easy walking, can be crowded on warm sunny days. Recommend parking on road side at Church Street or Old Broadway entrance, main parking lot on Broadway is very small. I don't go here in the warmer months, it's crawling with ticks.
Feb 25, 2025 · The S KGood place for MTN biking, lots of fun trails. Wash outs, berms and the occasional wooden structures over streams. Some uphill climbing that's worth it when you find the downhill deer trails. Recommend checking out.
Sep 18, 2023 · edward MitchellVery nice park. You can take your dog as long as you keep it on a leash and clean up after it. We went on a Sunday morning at 10am and saw about 12 other people throughout our walk which lasted about 30 minutes. There are a lot of trails so we tried to stay on the main ones but you can definitely explore. Saw one person on a mountain bike. Will definitely go again.
Apr 18, 2021 · Jay AbraNEGLECT!! After hiking in a few NYS parks recently, I am stunned by the condition of Suffolk County Parks, specificallySans Souci. Dead trees are everywhere, algae in the lakes killing lotus pads. Ducks gone from the lakes. I was born inSuffolk County and have lived here my whole life (72 years) and it is heartbreakiing to see this neglect by local government. I'd post photos but don't have Google photos.
