The Algonquin Hotel Times Square, Autograph Collection Reviews
Great location. The entire staff, especially the doorman were great. Our cleaner was so kind. The staff made the trip. The room was not as great. The rooms are very small, which is understandable in NYC but the AC didn't work that good. Super hot at night. Bathroom sink was so tiny compared to other hotels there. Great staff, loved that it had a bar downstairs.
May 19, 2025 · Nina Awad BecklundWe loved our stay at the Algonquin! The staff were amazing and wonderful to work with. We stayed in a Suite that had a wonderful layout. Housekeeping and front desk were super helpful and kind. Bartenders were fun and knowledgeable. We will absolutely be returning to this lovely hotel.
May 29, 2025 · Becca LuffmanWe picked this hotel to try and have an interesting place to stay at instead of just a tourist trap. The Algonquin has a cool history, and the current owners are still keeping amenities updated while maintaining the historical ambiance. Plus there is a resident staff cat - Hamlet. What's not to like?We did have some minor hiccups where fresh towels or water required an extra call back down to the desk to get them, but the staff was accommodating. Breakfast in the weekend mornings is busy - get there early or you'll be waiting a little bit. Food was excellent and about average price for the area.
May 26, 2025 · Sarah RaposoThe front desk is hostile and unprofessional. The AC that runs in the rooms is unbearably loud. Really terrible experience, couldn’t pay be to stay here. I cancelled and went to a different hotel same day. No one opened the door on my arrival. No one helped me with luggage upon entering, bringing it up to the room, and they offered to switch my room and when I went to the lobby she said “where’s your luggage? Go get it” just like that. My check in process was dismissive and extremely rushed. The management staff needs to send a friend as a secret guest over the course of a weekend or two to check in, make a few requests, eat, and really note how the front desk behaves when management isn’t there. My issues happened on a Sunday and there is ONLY a food and beverage manager on site, it was like pulling teeth with the front desk to get him. At first they told me they didn’t have a supervisor for them at the front desk… at all. Which is why, I’m sure, they were so emboldened to be nasty and dismissive. There can be no way they act like that when management is around. If they do, management is the issue here. I’ve stayed in hotels in Asia for as little as $45 a night and still rave about it because of how kindly I was treated. They need higher customer service standards. Professionalism and communication should be a bare minimum and they fall short.
May 25, 2025 · Alexandra MajkaFirst the good: gorgeous building in an outstanding location with some wonderful staff! Dana at the front desk was especially helpful. And there's nothing like the wrought iron balustrades on the marble stairs, and exquisite molding on all ceilings which has been kept up well over 120+ years. But we arrived to learn that there is no room service at any time. Fortunately nearby street food is pretty good. The rooms are small, even for an upgraded "larger size" queen. The bed head is right next to the door, with the bathroom opposite, so from the bed we heard ever door on the hallway open and close. The shower door has large gaps so water runs all over the floor, and TP is flimsy. Window AC is very noisy. I get that the building is old, but mini-splits have been around for at least 50 years. Then there was breakfast. Great food - nobody does bagels and smoked fish like New York. But we were in a rush and let the server know this - and food took a very long time to reach us. Another couple arrived after we ordered, ordered the same smoked salmon, and got their food before we did!At that point I told the server we needed our food to go. But instead, he brought it out 5 minutes later on eat-in plates! We said, no, we really need it to go, which took another five minutes. So a gorgeous but disappointing room, with terrific front desk staff, no room service, and lousy service at breakfast. Not a horrible stay, but also not what I expected at an Autograph Collection hotel.
