The Lucerne Hotel Reviews
We were so excited to begin our long-awaited family trip to New York. To make the experience more comfortable and memorable, I reserved a Queen Queen Suite at The Lucerne Hotel.Unfortunately, the room we were assigned had all windows facing brick walls or directly into other rooms. With metal bars across the windows, the space felt unusually closed-in — almost like a cell, which made it quite hard to relax inside. (Photo attached.)On the first evening, I asked if we might be able to change rooms due to the view. I was told that no rooms were available that night and was advised to ask again in the morning. I did, but was informed that no alternative rooms would become available during our entire 10-night stay.I fully understand that this is Manhattan and the hotel may not always have open inventory — especially in a historic building — but I was still surprised that not even one opportunity came up to switch rooms during that entire period. It would have made a meaningful difference if we’d been offered an option, even midway through the stay. What was particularly disappointing was the lack of empathy. I didn’t feel that the staff understood how much it impacted our experience. If I had known in advance that the view would be like this, I honestly would not have booked this room type — especially not for a long family stay where we hoped to enjoy even a modest city view or some natural light.Instead, we spent 10 nights in a room where the only view was a blank brick wall. For a trip we had looked forward to for so long, this was a real letdown.
Jun 02, 2025 · Sang-dae ShimI have stayed at the Lucerne twice now. The service is amazing! Everyone, from the doorman to the front desk staff, housekeeping, and servers at the restaurant (Nice Matine) are super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The location is great! The subway is within a block, Central Park is a short walk in one direction while Riverside Park is an easy walk in the other direction. Lots of great shopping and restaurants all within an easy walk.My room was very comfortable. While the walls seem thin (I could hear my neighbor’s television), they turned it off before bedtime and I did not notice any other noises. Air conditioning worked well and the bathroom was clean with good water pressure and hot water. My first stay at Lucerne wasn’t perfect but they really did try to make it so. I think I got a little embarrassed that time when I had to keep complaining. I decided to try it again this time and I’m so glad that I did! I will definitely be back and can’t wait!
Apr 20, 2025 · K WeldenAn excellent value for money. Unlike other hotels you get space to spread out. The decor is dated but perfectly nice and clean - For the same money I’ll take more space over fancy looking faucets any day. There isn’t a restaurant in the hotel proper but there’s one in the building and a good 24 hr convenience with decent food across the street. Our room had a sitting room with a small corridor with a bathroom to one side and a fridge space to the other to the bedroom. No honor bar. The older fixtures are very nice to use (lots of water flow in a way that’s rare in most places today!). There are nice views from the windows n several directions and the windows are modest sized to maintain privacy. All in all one of the best places I’ve stayed in NY (I’ve stayed in many newer hotels like the standard and the ace and the roger Williams but I’d actually prefer to stay here).. I strongly the with 5 stars since this isn’t some peak of opulence but I think hotels like this are under rated.
Mar 18, 2025 · Ben GomesAs two women, one in the 30s and one in the 60s range of age, we really enjoy staying on the upper west side. Then Lucerne has become our home hotel. We have stayed in a number of rooms. The corner rooms on the Avenue have incredible views, and the rooms with the “obstructed” view are a bit more spacious, and still have city scape views. You also get a breakfast voucher for Nice Matin, which is an excellent restaurant and that would be a different review.Everyone at the Lucerne is so kind and caring; service and housekeeping all do a wonderful job. It’s so nice to be recognized and welcomed by the same folks. Retaining staff is always a good sign for a hotel business. There are quite a few lovely restaurants within walking distance, the bagel place nearby is fantastic and quintessentially New York City. It’s also within walking distance of the science museum and the edge of the park.Note: the subways can take time, and cars can be pricey, if you plan on spending a lot of time in midtown and/or downtown. Unless you don’t mind walking for an hour, haha.We love the Lucerne!
Feb 24, 2025 · Britta StaceyVery nice hotel with excellent service, stayed here on business during the week. There were freezing temperatures the first night and the front desk let us know they couldn't do anything about not having hot water until the next day, but gave us breakfast vouchers for the restaurant next door, which was nice. Hot water still took some time with the shower running the next couple days but it did work. Room was a bit small but that's NYC, it was very clean and well cared for. Staff were very helpful, held onto our bags after checkout until end of workday. Thank you!
