The Westin New York at Times Square Reviews
We recently stayed 5 nights in the hotel as a family. The location is fantastic. It is pulsating part of NYC which is nonstop alive and busy 24/7. So if you prefer quieter part of NYC, this is not the place. Check in was very quick and fast ( I did online check in through the app). We arrived 1 hr before regular check in time and room was ready. We had high floor room for 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids 11and15). Room was the only downside but I expected it. Rooms are old, you see they are nonstop used and quite small. Ancient bathroom ( when I compare this Westin to Westin Vendome in Paris it is incomparable), BUT this was not an issue as we spend full day out and room is used just for sleeping. We have not had problems with the room and everything worked properly. Hotel lifts are very fast and almost no waiting time. If you are hungry you can use hotel restaurant or there are many eateries just outside the hotel. As far as transport goes, there is a subway station right next to hotel with direct connection to Brooklyn and lower Manhattan, easy walking distance to Times square /5mins/ and basically you can get anywhere very quickly. Check out was again very fast. So overall, this is a very good value hotel for families and I definitely recommend the hotel if you do not mind older rooms and busy areas. We have had very nice time here and Westin was definitely part of it :)
Apr 27, 2025 · Tomas HusekDestination Fee DetailsNote there is a destination fee of ~$40 for each day. This can be applied to the onsite bar and restaurant. I wasn't impressed with the service at the bar. The buffet breakfast was $38 base cost before tip but is probably the more worthwhile place to use the destination charge. If staying multiple nights the days you apply the charges need to be consecutive to be covered. Essentially, you the night you check in to use destination fee-you can go to breakfast the following morning and would have the $40 for that day and the following days of your stay until checkout. If you do not use any/all of the $40 each day it does not accumulate/roll forward.Destination fee additionally allows you to get 2 tickets on a boat to the Brooklyn bridge and back ($40/ticket value). We did that and would recommend it. It also gets you 2 tickets to the museum of natural history ($35/ticket value?) and would recommend that as well. If staying multiple nights it will only let you do one of the ticketed options each day. You cannot go to the same place twice during your stay. The tickets are an added bonus-you still get your daily $40 in restaurant/bar credit. We did not use room service or takeout from the restaurant as there are additional fees if you go that route. There is another free ticket option for a comedy club that we did not try out. The $40 is not usable at the gift shop/store.RoomsRooms do not have a fridge. They have a coffee maker with individual single serve packets (2 per night). Beds are very comfortable. We stayed in a premium corner room that had a great view. Bathrooms are on a movement based timer so you should expect to have a portion of your shower in the dark, but if you have the blinds down it is still bright enough to see. There is an ice machine on the floor.Nearby/getting aroundLittle Italy across the street has great affordable NY style pizza. I actually liked this place better than the more trendy places near Greenwich Village. McDonald's is close by too if you want a cheap snack. I don't recommend the Dunkin nearby.Just take the subway instead of other transport options. You get around quicker and it is only about $3 a ride. There are multiple entries to the station, either by Chick-fil-A or just south of the hotel on the same side of the street. No need to buy a metro card. Use a credit card or a smart device and tap to pay.Make sure you visit the Met. It was the greatest museum I have been to.
May 18, 2025 · DaveThe Westin Times Square has a convenient location — close to Times Square, Penn Station, Broadway, and great restaurants — but the condition of the hotel and room was extremely disappointing. From the start, the room had a strong, unpleasant odor. The carbon monoxide detector kept chirping— not constantly, but loud and often enough to be disturbing, middle of the night disturbing that it would startle us. We had to open the window just to get it to stop, and the front desk response was simply, “If it goes off again, call us.”There was old food left in the beverage fridge, and the bed sheets had yellow stains that housekeeping missed twice before finally replacing them. The room phone didn’t work, and an engineer came up just to tell us to dial “0” because the system was outdated. We had to use our personal cell phones to call the front desk for any issues. The cleaning staff clearly doesn’t do a thorough job. From the fridge, to the stained sheets, to the general condition of the room, it was clear cleanliness wasn’t a priority. The lighting in the room was poor — and the only way to get decent light was to open the window, but that meant facing directly into nearby apartment buildings, which forced us to close the blinds again for privacy, bringing us right back to gloomy lighting. The wallpaper was peeling, the ceiling above the shower showed signs of water damage, and overall the room felt neglected and outdated. The staff was polite and courteous, but they’re working in a hotel that’s well below the standard the Westin name promises. We won’t be staying here again.
Apr 20, 2025 · a robAbsolutely no way this is a real five-star hotel. The rating on Google is completely misleading, and honestly, I’m shocked it hasn’t been corrected. My wife and I stayed for just one night, and the experience was frustrating from the start. There was no mini fridge in the room, which you’d expect to be standard at this price point. When we called down, we were told we had to request one and pay an extra twenty dollars. Thankfully, the front desk agent waived the fee, which we appreciated, but it’s ridiculous that it’s even an extra charge. Then the bathroom. Both sink knobs only gave out hot water. No cold at all. I actually burned my hand just trying to wash up. The in-room phone barely worked, and when it did, we couldn’t reach the front desk or concierge. It felt like there was no way to get help if you needed anything. We were moved to a different room, but it was on a lower floor with a worse view. It honestly felt like a downgrade disguised as a solution. For over four hundred dollars a night, even in Times Square, this hotel just doesn’t deliver. The amenities are bare minimum, the service is inconsistent, and there is absolutely nothing about this place that says luxury. We will never stay here again. If you’re reading this and thinking about booking, save yourself the frustration and look somewhere else
May 20, 2025 · Eli GreenThe rooms at The Westin Times Square are quite worn, and the soundproofing is poor — you can easily hear other guests and the street noise can be quite loud. That said, the location is excellent if you want to be close to Times Square. The elevators are very fast, the beds are extremely comfortable, and the staff are efficient and friendly. There's also a convenient FedEx office inside the hotel where you can receive packages of any kind, which is a big plus if you're expecting deliveries during your stay.
