Blydenburgh Boat Launch and Parking Introduce
For many New Yorkers, especially those residing on Long Island, the desire to connect with nature and enjoy outdoor recreation is a strong one. While the urban landscape offers its own unique vibrancy, the sprawling green spaces of Suffolk County provide a much-needed respite. Among these, the area known as Blydenburgh Boat Launch and Parking in Smithtown, NY, serves as a crucial access point to the much-loved Blydenburgh County Park.
This specific location, often simply referred to by locals as "Blydenburgh," has long been synonymous with the picturesque Stump Pond (also known as New Mill Pond or Weld's Pond) and its associated activities, particularly fishing and kayaking. However, as many long-time visitors are aware, the landscape here has undergone a significant transformation. In August 2023, the dam at the north end of Stump Pond failed, leading to the full draining of the pond. This event has dramatically altered the scenery, revealing tree stumps that have been submerged for over 200 years.
Despite this change, the Blydenburgh Boat Launch and Parking area remains a vital entry point to an extensive system of trails that continue to draw countless visitors. As one local review poignantly states, "Love taking my dogs walking through this park and the trails." Even with the absence of the pond's water, the park's natural beauty and its expansive trail network offer a serene and engaging environment for hikers, dog walkers, and nature enthusiasts. The Nissequogue River still flows through parts of the area, providing a sense of life and continuity to the evolving landscape.
While the immediate future of the pond's refilling is uncertain – with repairs expected to take months or longer, followed by over a year for rainfall to replenish the water – the spirit of Blydenburgh endures. It continues to be a cherished spot for quiet contemplation, exercise, and enjoying the simple pleasures of being outdoors. This article will guide you through what you can expect from the Blydenburgh Boat Launch and Parking area, its role in accessing the broader park, and why it remains a valuable local resource for New Yorkers.

This provides a rare glimpse into the area's history and geology, offering a different kind of natural beauty to observe. It's a testament to the dynamic nature of the environment.

Despite the dramatic change in the landscape due to the drained Stump Pond, this location remains remarkably suitable for locals for several compelling reasons.
Firstly, its primary function as an access point to the extensive trail system of Blydenburgh County Park is invaluable. Blydenburgh Boat Launch and Parking Reviews
Love taking my dogs walking through this park and the trails im just very confused as to why we aren't getting new water into the area. Can it be redammed ? Can it be fortified? Can it be refilled ? Maybe I'm way off i don't known much about this stuff but there seems to be running water through a few spots. I used to fish and kayak here. Let's Get It fixed. Still a nice place just really really want the water back.
