For locals, this means a dependable option when family or friends come to visit, offering them a convenient and economical entry point into the city's pulse. It's a place where guests can rest after a day of extensive sightseeing, with the understanding that its primary strength is its proximity to key attractions and public transport, rather than lavish in-house features.
The unique character of the Days Inn by Wyndham New York Chinatown is intrinsically tied to its neighborhood. Chinatown and the adjacent Lower East Side are bustling areas, rich with culinary delights, historic streetscapes, and a distinct atmosphere. Staying here allows guests to immerse themselves in a truly authentic New York experience, with diverse cultural experiences just steps away. This article will delve into the specifics of what makes this hotel a suitable choice for those prioritizing exploration and value, providing a factual overview of its location, services, and what you can expect during a stay, drawing on real customer experiences to offer a balanced perspective for local users.
The Days Inn by Wyndham New York Chinatown is strategically located at 79 Eldridge St, New York, NY 10002, USA. This address places it squarely in the heart of Manhattan's vibrant Chinatown, a neighborhood celebrated for its rich cultural heritage, bustling markets, authentic eateries, and lively street life. The hotel's position on Eldridge Street means guests are immediately immersed in the unique atmosphere of the area, with its distinct architecture and constant energy.
One of the hotel's strongest selling points, particularly for New Yorkers and their guests, is its exceptional accessibility to public transportation and key downtown attractions. It is incredibly well-situated for exploring not only Chinatown but also neighboring districts.
For subway access, the hotel is just a few blocks away from multiple stations, providing excellent connectivity across Manhattan and to other boroughs:
The F train (East Broadway station) is conveniently located, offering direct access to areas like Greenwich Village, Midtown, and uptown destinations.
The B/D trains (Grand Street station) are also within easy walking distance, connecting travelers to Midtown and other parts of the city.
Additional subway lines, including the J/Z (Bowery or Canal Street stations) and N/Q/R/W/6 (Canal Street stations), are also accessible, further enhancing the hotel's connectivity.
Beyond the subway, the hotel's location offers fantastic walkability to several iconic New York City neighborhoods and landmarks. It is, as noted by customer reviews, "just 2-3 blocks from Little Italy and the main section of Chinatown," making it "perfectly situated for exploring for the weekend." Guests can easily stroll to:
Little Italy: Known for its historic charm, traditional Italian restaurants, and annual Feast of San Gennaro.
Chinatown: Offering a plethora of dim sum spots, unique shops, and cultural experiences right outside the door.
Lower East Side: With its trendy boutiques, vibrant nightlife, and historic Tenement Museum.
Tribeca and Wall Street: For those interested in the financial district or the historic cobblestone streets of Tribeca, these areas are also within walking distance, making the hotel a strategic base for a wide range of New York experiences. This superb connectivity and prime location make the Days Inn by Wyndham New York Chinatown a pragmatic choice for navigating the city.
The Days Inn by Wyndham New York Chinatown focuses on providing essential services that cater to the needs of budget-conscious travelers, prioritizing value and a convenient stay over extensive luxury amenities. While customer reviews indicate a minimalist approach, the hotel does offer core services that enhance a guest's experience:
24-Hour Front Desk Service: A round-the-clock reception ensures that guests can check in or out at any time and receive assistance with basic inquiries, security, or immediate concerns. Although reviews mention a less prominent lobby, staff are available.
Free Breakfast: The hotel provides a complimentary breakfast, as noted by a customer review. While the quality might be "pretty mediocre" as one guest described, it offers a convenient and cost-saving option to start the day.
Complimentary Coffee: Guests can enjoy free coffee, a definite "plus" as highlighted in a review, providing a welcome pick-me-up.
Free Wi-Fi: High-speed internet access is typically available throughout the hotel, including in guest rooms, allowing visitors to stay connected, plan their day, or work remotely.
Air Conditioning: All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, ensuring a comfortable stay, especially during New York's warmer months.
Elevator Access: Given the multiple floors, an elevator is available for easy access to all rooms, which is essential for guests with luggage or mobility needs.
Daily Housekeeping: Standard daily housekeeping services are provided to ensure rooms are kept clean and tidy throughout a guest's stay.
It is important to manage expectations regarding additional amenities; as one review states, the hotel has "next to no amenities" beyond the basics. This streamlined approach allows the hotel to offer competitive pricing in a prime New York City location.
The Days Inn by Wyndham New York Chinatown, while prioritizing practicality and value, offers several features and highlights that contribute to a convenient and memorable stay for its guests, particularly for those focused on exploring the city.
Exceptional Location for Exploration: This is arguably the hotel's strongest feature. Situated in the heart of Chinatown and just "2-3 blocks from Little Italy," guests have immediate access to vibrant cultural experiences, diverse dining options, and unique shopping opportunities. Its proximity to major subway lines makes it a fantastic base for exploring all of Manhattan and beyond. This "perfectly situated for exploring for the weekend" aspect is highly valued by guests.
Affordable Pricing: For New York City, finding genuinely affordable accommodation in a central location can be challenging. The Days Inn offers a budget-friendly option that "does the job and for the price it is well worth it," making it accessible for a wider range of travelers, including those on a tighter budget or extended stays.
"Fantastic Views and Great Light": Despite rooms being described as "incredibly small," a significant highlight for guests is the potential for "fantastic views" from the rooms. Coupled with "great light," this can make even compact spaces feel more open and provide a classic New York City vista.
Complimentary Breakfast and Coffee: While basic, the inclusion of free breakfast and coffee is a valuable amenity that adds to the overall value proposition. It allows guests to save on dining expenses and conveniently start their day without having to immediately seek out a café.
Proximity to Public Transport: As noted, the hotel is "close to a number of public transport options," which is crucial for navigating New York City efficiently and cost-effectively. This feature allows guests to maximize their sightseeing time.
It is important to note that while the location and views are consistently praised, some operational aspects, such as noise from hallways due to gaps under doors and potential disturbances from other guests, are mentioned in reviews as areas where the hotel's basic amenities might be less ideal for those seeking perfect quiet. However, for travelers prioritizing location, affordability, and a base for urban exploration, these features remain significant highlights.

Days Inn by Wyndham New York Chinatown Reviews
This isn’t the nicest hotel and it’s got next to no amenities (not even a lobby) but it does the job and for the price it is well worth it. It’s close to a number of public transport options, and just 2-3 blocks from little Italy and the main section of Chinatown. It was perfectly situated for exploring for the weekend. They have free breakfast, which we chose not to have since it looked pretty mediocre, but coffee was a plus. Room is incredibly small, but fantastic views and got great light.
May 26, 2025 · Jordan TesslerIf you’re hoping to get a good night’s sleep after a long day of sightseeing—skip this hotel!I booked this place for 8 nights during my first-ever solo trip to New York. The location is decent—close to Manhattan, walking distance to Tribeca and Wall Street, with a couple of subway stations nearby. But that’s about the only thing that went right. From the beginning, the room was noisy. There’s a visible gap (about 2 cm) under the door, so every sound from the hallway comes right in. The doors also slam loudly, and you hear them constantly. On my fifth night, things got much worse. A couple on my floor started making extreme noise around 10:30 p.m.—TV blasting, loud moaning, crying, fighting, over and over again. I contacted reception multiple times, but they couldn’t do much. The couple had disconnected their room phone and refused to answer when staff knocked. The chaos went on until 3:45 a.m.It felt like everything was happening inside my room—I have videos where you can clearly hear everything from across the hall. I honestly felt unsafe with all the screaming and crying going on for hours. Being alone, it was genuinely unsettling.I wasn’t the only guest affected. One couple changed rooms at 11 p.m., and I was offered a room change at midnight—which was not reasonable after five days and two fully unpacked suitcases. Another guest told me he had to take a sleeping pill, but even that didn’t help; he was still woken up at 2 a.m. by the noise. The next day, I was so exhausted I had to sleep through most of the afternoon, missing out on part of my trip—which was incredibly frustrating. That lost time felt like a complete waste of a day in New York.Despite asking multiple times, I was never able to speak with a manager. So yes—if you care about sleep, safety, or your time while on vacation, avoid this hotel.
May 12, 2025 · Nadia TayI had an extremely disappointing stay at this hotel due to both poor service and a serious SECURITY ISSUE.Upon check-in, I was moved to a different room, and shortly after, one of my belongings—a pair of shoes—was STOLEN. I reported it the next morning, at which point no new guests had checked into the room, meaning only the cleaner had access. I thoroughly checked my luggage and even asked the receptionist to verify, confirming the item was missing. Despite this, the hotel refused to let me review security footage, which would have clearly shown that my shoes were in the hotel. No resolution was provided during my stay, and after escalating the issue with the online booking agency, I was only offered a ridiculous compensation that didn’t even cover a third of the item's cost. The service overall was unacceptable. Breakfast consisted of a pre-packed bag with low-quality food, given at reception—no coffee, no milk, and no proper meal. To make matters worse, we weren’t even informed that there was a dining area on the top floor until the third day. Additionally, the hairdryer was not working, and the sink drainer was clogged, showing a lack of maintenance. This hotel lacks both basic service standards and proper security. I wouldn’t stay here again and definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a SAFE and comfortable stay.
Feb 23, 2025 · Mariana RosasThe location was great - this was right in the heart of Chinatown and within walking distance of great restaurants and bars and easy to walk or access transportation. The bed was also very comfortable and we feel like that was a great part of the room. The room was not great - it was tiny, which is fine, but was hard to fit even 2 people in there. The bathroom was probably the worst part - it was super gross, especially the shower. There was hair in it when we showed up, and the floor of the shower is warped in a weird way so the water pools while in the shower. The water was also FREEZING!! No matter how long we let it run, it would not get warm which was not ideal for our trip in the middle of winter.... We had the only room on the 13th floor, which would have been cool if it wasn't the main floor for the cleaning crew. We got woken up by them slamming their closets doors at 6am and them talking super loud right next to our room early in the morning as well. The crew also wasn't helpful at all - we only got 1 tiny bar of soap for both the bathroom to wash our hands and body wash for our showers which was gross. But they also forgot to refill our coffee station so we didn't have any coffee the second day. When we called the front desk to ask for coffee they told us to come down and get it (pretty rude). When we went down there, the people were just sitting around watching YouTube videos and didn't even acknowledge us for a long time. They also only gave us 1 room key even though there were 2 of us in the room which we thought was weird and inconsiderate. The front desk just wasn't very friendly or good at communicating honestly. All of the floors in this building were weirdly sticky like they weren't cleaned well and everything smelled like pine sol, even our bath towels. It was off putting and concerning. There also is no breakfast, not even like a continental breakfast which I thought these types of hotels normally had. Overall just not a good experience
Feb 18, 2025 · Amber HowellVery good location! Manager at the front desk was very friendly! Room was clean overall. Importantly they forgot to put covering sheet!!!
