New York City is a magnet for diverse reasons—from attending world-renowned Broadway shows and major conferences at the Javits Center to exploring iconic landmarks or simply enjoying a local "staycation" to experience a different part of the city. The Hampton Inn brand is well-known for its consistent quality and value, and this particular location aims to deliver on that promise, providing a solid base for urban exploration without an exorbitant price tag. It's often highlighted for being "reasonably priced and clean," a highly sought-after combination in the competitive NYC hotel market.
This article will delve into the specifics of what makes the Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square South a suitable choice for various travelers. We'll explore its strategic location, the complimentary services that add value, its key features and highlights, and even touch upon any available promotions. Location and Accessibility
The Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square South is ideally situated at 337 W 39th St, New York, NY 10018, USA. This places it directly in the Midtown West neighborhood, specifically within the bustling Garment District, offering superb access to some of New York City's most iconic attractions and vital transportation hubs.
The hotel's location is undoubtedly one of its strongest selling points, frequently praised by guests as its "best part." It's incredibly "walkable and well-connected," being just a short stroll from the Port Authority Bus Terminal, a major transportation nexus serving numerous subway lines (A, C, E) and bus routes. Times Square, with its dazzling lights, theaters, and entertainment, is also within comfortable walking distance, allowing guests to easily immerse themselves in the heart of Broadway.
Furthermore, Penn Station (a key hub for Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road, and New Jersey Transit) is less than half a mile away, providing excellent connections to regional airports like JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark Liberty International. The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Madison Square Garden, and even Bryant Park are all within a reasonable distance, making the hotel convenient for both business and leisure travelers. While one reviewer mentioned that the area around Port Authority can feel "a bit shady at night," this is a common characteristic of busy urban transit areas. During the day and for most purposes, the accessibility of this location is a significant advantage, allowing guests to efficiently navigate and explore Manhattan.

Features / Highlights
The Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square South, while offering a budget-friendly experience, has several key features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for many travelers:
- Prime Midtown West Location: Its address on West 39th Street positions it perfectly for easy access to Times Square, Broadway theaters, Port Authority, and other major Manhattan attractions and transportation. This walkability is a tremendous asset.
- Complimentary Hot Breakfast: This is a significant value-add, as finding free, hot breakfast in a New York City hotel, especially in a prime location, is a considerable bonus. It helps guests save money and time each morning.
- Friendly and Accommodating Staff: Repeatedly highlighted by reviewers, the "incredibly nice and wonderful" front desk staff is a standout feature, contributing significantly to a positive guest experience.
- Cleanliness: Guests generally describe the hotel and rooms as "clean," which is a fundamental expectation and a strong positive for any accommodation.

It's important to acknowledge some common New York City hotel realities reflected in reviews: rooms are described as "small" and "compact," and noise (from elevators and sirens) can be a factor. The presence of only two small elevators for 32 floors can lead to wait times, as noted by a reviewer who resorted to stairs. These are typical considerations for hotels in dense urban environments, and managing expectations regarding space and noise is advisable.

Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square South Reviews
Reasonably priced and clean. This was also one of the few hotels that included breakfast in the area. The front desk staff was incredibly nice and wonderful to work with.Their house keeping staff needs to pay attention a little more. They cleaned my room each day and replaced the linens but also left some of the dirty towels in the room consistently as well as some of their cleaning supplies.Overall, it was a good stay and I would stay again.
Jun 01, 2025 · Paul GreenBest part of this hotel was location. Hotel could use a refreshing. Rooms are small. There are 32 floors, 2 small elevators which take forever, so give yourself extra time. We used the stairs down from the 17th floor several times because it was faster. Great breakfast was provided, but again in a crowded space. Even the lobby was congested with people and luggage. If you stay here bring ear plugs as you can hear the elevator running constantly as well as hearing sirens at night. All in all a good budget hotel, all depends what you are looking for.
Apr 27, 2025 · Dawn RadcliffeLocation is close to everything, the rooms aren't as small as people say and the bathrooms are decently sized too. As many have said maybe a little update on the rooms wouldn't go amiss. Service however? Everything single staff member is friendly, kind and polite but professional. We had a issue on checking in but spoke to Eduardo (he is amazing and very kind) the following day and he resolved it immediately. Honestly we had a wonderful experience and breakfast is pretty damn decent. (Thank you Cesar) Thank you to all the staff who helped us and made our stay wonderful.
May 07, 2025 · Robyn LindsayThis hotel was far from what I expected after paying $400 for one night. This price has to have been based on location, even though it is several blocks from Times Square. The cart to bring in luggage fell apart before we even got to the elevator. The elevators were slow, seemed unsafe and had no safety to stop the doorsfrom closing on my small children. The hotel hallways are very narrow. It was difficult to get the cart on/off the elevators. We had to request that our room be vacuumed and bedding changed upon arrival because nothing looked clean. The door handles had paint on them. The toilet flush handle was broken. The toilet paper roll holder was falling out of the wall. The elevator inside support handles were falling off. The floor selection buttons didn't light up when pressed. Even worse, there was black mold on the walls and tiles of the bathroom. The only bright light here was the staff, who were accommodating and very nice. I don't recommend this hotel unless, like us, you absolutely require a place that provides parking. Even so, I'd look for other better options.
May 06, 2025 · Don Perry IIII recently stayed at this hotel and, unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. The room was quite small with barely enough space to move around comfortably. It was difficult to sleep two adults on one double bed. The shower was even more cramped, making it difficult to bathe properly. One of the biggest issues was the elevator situation with only two lifts servicing 32 floors, it became almost impossible to get one during peak times like breakfast, resulting in long wait times and a lot of frustration. While the location of the hotel was excellent and convenient, the service left much to be desired. I had a particularly bad experience with the front desk. Around 4:30 pm, just as I was about to call an Uber to the airport, a front desk staff member offered to arrange a taxi for me, assuring it would cost no more than $60–65 with no extra fees. Trusting him as hotel staff, I accepted. However, upon arrival at the airport, the driver demanded over $80. When I questioned the price, he claimed he had no connection with the hotel staff. This incident felt like a clear scam, and it was very disappointing to see such behavior potentially involving hotel personnel. It’s unfortunate that this experience left me with a strong lesson: don’t trust unsolicited offers and always book through trusted apps like Uber.Overall, I would not recommend this hotel due to the poor service, space constraints, and what felt like a dishonest interaction with staff.
