Life Hotel New York Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a comfortable, stylish, and remarkably convenient place to stay, whether for a well-deserved staycation, accommodating visiting friends and family, or needing a temporary base in the heart of the city, Life Hotel New York offers a compelling option. Located at 19 W 31st St, New York, NY 10001, USA, this hotel provides a blend of historic charm and modern comfort, aiming to deliver a memorable experience without the overwhelming intensity often associated with Midtown proper.
Life Hotel New York is described by guests as a place that exudes a positive atmosphere and offers surprising value for its location. One reviewer enthusiastically stated, "We LOVED our stay at the Life Hotel!" highlighting its appeal. It strikes a balance by being "super close to Herald Square and Penn Station," offering easy access to major transportation hubs and the broader Midtown area, while simultaneously providing the benefit of "not being in the insanity of midtown." This means guests can enjoy a "Much calmer, fewer crowds" environment, yet remain incredibly well-connected. Reviewers consistently praise the "massive" room sizes for New York standards, the quality of the marble bathrooms, and the thoughtful amenity of a tub. Even with ongoing renovations, the hotel's core appeal — its prime location, comfortable accommodations, and friendly vibe, exemplified by staff like Ruk in the cafe — shines through. For those seeking a strategic and comfortable launching pad for their New York adventures or a peaceful retreat within the city, Life Hotel New York presents itself as an attractive choice, often at a "lower price than most of the hotels" in the vicinity.
Life Hotel New York boasts an exceptionally strategic location at 19 W 31st St, New York, NY 10001, USA. This address places it firmly in the vibrant NoMad (North of Madison Square Park) district, directly bordering the bustling Midtown area. This position is a major asset for New Yorkers, offering the best of both worlds: immediate access to major transportation hubs and iconic attractions, coupled with a slightly calmer atmosphere compared to the intense crowds of Times Square or Herald Square itself.
The hotel's proximity to Herald Square and Penn Station is a significant convenience. Herald Square, a major retail hub, is just a few blocks away, providing access to Macy's and numerous other shops and restaurants. Penn Station, one of the busiest transportation hubs in the world, offers access to Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), New Jersey Transit, and multiple subway lines. This makes getting to and from the airport shuttles remarkably easy, as highlighted by a satisfied guest.
Accessibility via New York City's extensive subway system is unparalleled from this location. Guests are within a short walk of numerous subway lines, including:
- The 1, 2, 3, A, C, E trains at 34th Street-Penn Station.
- The B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, W trains at Herald Square (34th Street-Herald Square).
- The 6 train at 33rd Street and Park Avenue South.
This dense network of subway lines ensures that guests can effortlessly reach virtually any part of Manhattan and connect to other boroughs. Whether you're heading to a Broadway show, exploring Greenwich Village, visiting Central Park, or commuting for business, the options are limitless. Multiple MTA bus routes also traverse nearby avenues like Fifth Avenue, Sixth Avenue, and Broadway, offering additional convenient surface transportation. The balance of being close to the action without being overwhelmed by it, combined with outstanding transit links, makes Life Hotel's location incredibly suitable for any New Yorker or their visitors.
- Spacious Guest Rooms: A highly praised service is the provision of "massive" rooms by New York standards, offering more space and comfort than many comparable city hotels.
- Marble Bathrooms with Tubs: Guests consistently highlight the "all marble" bathrooms and the "tub option," providing a luxurious and relaxing bathing experience often not found in city hotels.
- Complimentary Morning Coffee/Tea: The hotel offers free morning coffees from the cafe, a valued amenity that enhances the start of the day for guests.

- Wi-Fi Access: Essential for modern travelers, reliable internet access would be a standard service.
- Surprisingly Spacious Rooms: A standout feature for New York City, guest rooms are "massive for New York standards," offering significantly more space than typically found in Manhattan hotels, which enhances comfort and livability.
- Luxurious Marble Bathrooms with Tubs: The "all marble" bathrooms and the availability of a "tub option" are key highlights, providing a touch of luxury and relaxation that is highly valued by guests.
- Ideal Location (Calm yet Connected): The hotel's position provides the perfect balance of being "super close to Herald Square and Penn Station" for ultimate accessibility, while still being "not in the insanity of midtown," ensuring a "much calmer, fewer crowds" experience.
- Historic Building with Character: Located in what appears to be an older building (indicated by the "beautiful staircase"), the hotel likely retains architectural charm and history, offering a unique aesthetic compared to modern, sterile hotels.
- Charming On-Site Cafe with Engaging Staff: The hotel's cafe is a highlight, not just for "great food and great vibes," but also for its memorable staff, like "Ruk," who adds a personal and friendly touch to the morning routine.
- Excellent Value for Money: Reviewers specifically note that the "price was lower than most of the hotels we were looking at in the area," making it an attractive option for those seeking a quality stay without overspending.

Life Hotel New York Reviews
We LOVED our stay at the Life Hotel! We stayed for a little over a week during the Macy's flower show. It's super close to Herald Square and Penn Station, so easy to get to the Uber Airport Shuttles, the subway, and midtown. We loved not being in the insanity of midtown, though. Much calmer, fewer crowds, and the restaurants were so much better. We stayed on the 4th floor and mostly took the beautiful staircase up and down. The room was massive for New York standards. The bathroom was all marble, and the water pressure was great. We loved the tub option as well. Our windows look onto the air shaft, so not much to look at, but it made for great sleeping weather! The ping pong club behind the hotel was a bit loud one night, but the air conditioner drowned out all the noise, so it wasn't too noticeable. There are no coffee makers in the room, but we loved our morning trips down to see Ruk in the cafe for our free morning coffees, who is a character and a half. It's a beautiful space with great food and great vibes. On top of it all, the price was lower than most of the hotels we were looking at in the area. We can't wait to come back!
May 18, 2025 · Zac SkippOverall we had a solid stay here! The room was cute and the bathroom was a very spacious size for New York standards. I do have to echo some of what the other reviews said regarding finding a hair that wasn’t theirs in the towels / bathroom, I just kind of accepted it as an honest mistake because the rest of the room was clean! The elevators were painfully slow but I can imagine this is out of their control - a tip for someone that stays here would be to push both buttons. The hotel is going through some renovations it seems so I would give them some grace here.
May 23, 2025 · Alexandra SrnkaLet me start by saying that these hotel rooms are very lovely, cozy, quaint, and are nicely designed. However, a few items to note would be that the rooms aren’t the cleanest. I found hair that is not mine on shower walls, in corners under the sink, and on the bathroom counter surfaces. Sheets are impeccable so far as I can tell though. Also, depending on the time of the day, the showers are not particularly hot, and warm would be a generous adjective. My favorite thing about this particular establishment is easily the location & security, being right off of 5th Avenue in Midtown is great for getting around.
May 20, 2025 · Dani BrunI would like to mention one of your employees at the bakery on the ground floor of the hotel. Her name is RUK. She greets people in the morning and makes coffee. She is a very nice and helpful person. The coffee she made for me the past two days was excellent. It's wonderful that you employ people like her! Thank you. I will add more info when my stay is over.——- When I arrived at the hotel last year, it was right after you reopened following the COVID pandemic. The hotel is so nice, in a central location, and the staff is amazing.I came back this year with my whole family. We had three rooms and enjoyed every moment. The hotel isn't very luxurious, but it's comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, the beds are cozy, the linens are clean, and generally, the attention to cleanliness is noticeable. What’s most special about this hotel is the wonderful team of people who make every guest feel truly at home, far from home.A huge, heartfelt thank you to Chris, Rick, Dan, Russell, Ruk and one of a kind - Francisco, who are hardworking, friendly, and truly did everything to make us feel comfortable.Thank you so much, dear team. We will return to this hotel again and again, only because of you.You make this business, and truly deserve all the appreciation!!!!
Apr 01, 2025 · Orit ShalomLife Hotel in New York is to be avoided absolutely!!! We reported that the toilet was difficult to evacuate. The evening we returned to our room, our toilet overflowed. We had water everywhere in the room. Barely an apology and no goodwill gesture... The TV was out of order and never worked despite the hotel's description of "flat screen TV".... The heating system is infernally noisy and prevented us from sleeping properly. The clothes storage is limited and cramped. The manager is unfriendly and to top it all off, a view overlooking a shabby courtyard. We had booked with Lastminute.com...
