The Grand NYC Apartments Introduce
For anyone navigating the complex landscape of short-term accommodation in New York City, particularly in prime locations, it's crucial to be well-informed. The Grand NYC Apartments, located at 38 W 31st St, New York, NY 10001, USA, positions itself as a provider of apartment-style lodging in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. While the allure of an apartment setting in such a central location can be significant for travelers, it's important to delve into the experiences of past guests to gain a comprehensive understanding of what a stay here might entail.
The concept of apartment rentals for short stays has gained popularity in New York City, offering guests potentially more space and a different living experience compared to traditional hotel rooms. The Grand NYC Apartments appears to operate within this model, attracting visitors with the promise of a convenient Manhattan base. Its address, squarely in Midtown, suggests immediate access to many of the city's most iconic attractions and essential transportation links.
However, it is critical for prospective guests to carefully consider the detailed feedback provided by former occupants. Reviews available publicly indicate a pattern of significant concerns that go beyond typical minor inconveniences. Frequent and severe criticisms revolve around a fundamental mismatch between advertised conditions and actual room reality, serious maintenance issues, and highly problematic interactions with management regarding additional charges and communication. Phrases like "ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS," "not recommended," "disappointing experience," and "strong discouragement" are prevalent. Guests have reported instances where "the apartment did not match the listing description," leading to disappointment upon arrival.
Specific issues highlighted in reviews include a non-functional air conditioning system contributing to a "suffocating mildew smell," a severe lack of basic toiletries (e.g., "four small sachets of body wash for 4 persons for 6 days"), and cleanliness issues such as "stained yellow pillows" and "black mold in the bathtub." Furthermore, safety concerns were raised regarding a "kitchenette appeared modified in an unsafe way, with aluminum foil placed under the burners." Beyond the physical state of the apartments, guests have reported unauthorized credit card charges after departure, dismissive responses from management, and even threats of legal action for negative reviews. These serious allegations collectively paint a picture that warrants extreme caution for anyone considering a stay at The Grand NYC Apartments.
The Grand NYC Apartments is strategically situated at 38 W 31st St, New York, NY 10001, USA. This location is, without a doubt, one of its most compelling features, offering exceptional connectivity and proximity to key areas of New York City.
For travelers arriving from any of the major New York City airports (JFK, LGA, EWR), the convenience is remarkable. The property is just a very short walk from Penn Station, a major transit hub for Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), and New Jersey Transit. This means that guests arriving by train from other cities or from Long Island can reach the apartments with minimal effort, and those flying into the city can utilize efficient AirTrain and commuter rail connections directly to Penn Station. The Port Authority Bus Terminal, another significant hub for regional and national bus services, is also easily accessible on foot, further enhancing transportation options.
Subway access from 38 W 31st Street is superb, placing multiple lines within a few blocks' walk. The 1, 2, 3, A, C, and E subway lines serve the Penn Station complex, providing direct and rapid transit to virtually every major neighborhood and attraction in Manhattan, as well as connections to other boroughs. This extensive subway network allows guests to explore New York City with unparalleled ease and efficiency.
In terms of nearby attractions, guests staying at The Grand NYC Apartments are within a stone's throw of iconic landmarks. Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building, and Herald Square (home to Macy's flagship store) are all just a few blocks away. The vibrant Koreatown, with its array of restaurants and shops, is also immediately adjacent. Furthermore, Times Square and the heart of the Broadway Theater District are a brisk walk or a very short subway ride away, offering endless entertainment possibilities. This central and highly accessible location is a significant advantage for anyone looking to maximize their time exploring the diverse offerings of New York City.

Its address at 38 W 31st St places guests within extremely close proximity to major transportation hubs like Penn Station and Moynihan Train Hall, as well as iconic landmarks such as Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building, and Herald Square. This central location offers exceptional convenience for exploring all of New York City.

Promotions or Special Offers:
Based on the provided information and the nature of the customer reviews, The Grand NYC Apartments does not publicly advertise traditional "promotions or special offers" in the manner of a conventional hotel or established hospitality brand. The feedback received from guests points towards operational issues rather than marketing incentives.
As a property likely listed on various online travel agencies (OTAs) such as Airbnb (as explicitly mentioned in a review) or other booking platforms, any "promotions" would typically be managed and displayed through these third-party websites. Such offers might include:
- Seasonal discounts or last-minute deals applied by the listing platform.
- Potential long-stay discounts (e.g., weekly or monthly rates, if offered and reliably applied).
- Platform-specific loyalty program benefits for repeat users.
However, given the serious concerns raised in customer reviews regarding unapproved charges, lack of transparency, and dismissive management responses, potential guests should exercise extreme caution when considering any discounted rates. It is highly recommended to thoroughly review the most current guest feedback on all booking platforms before making any reservations. There are no direct promotions from the property itself that are publicly available or verifiable from the provided data.

Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for Locals
For New Yorkers, understanding all lodging options in the city, especially for hosting visiting friends and family or for short-term needs, is essential. The Grand NYC Apartments, at 38 W 31st St, undeniably benefits from an exceptionally central and convenient location. Its proximity to major transportation hubs like Penn Station and iconic Manhattan landmarks means that guests can easily access the entire city, which is a significant advantage in New York. For those prioritizing location above all else, this might initially seem appealing.
However, based on the overwhelming and consistent negative feedback from numerous former guests, The Grand NYC Apartments presents significant risks that locals should strongly consider. The extensive list of serious issues, including rooms not matching descriptions, severe cleanliness problems (mold, mildew, stained pillows), broken amenities (non-functioning AC, broken fixtures), safety concerns (unsafe kitchenette modifications), lack of basic supplies, and particularly alarming issues with unresponsive and allegedly hostile management regarding unauthorized charges and threats for negative reviews, paints a picture of a profoundly disappointing and potentially problematic stay. While the idea of an apartment-style stay in a prime location might be attractive, the pervasive and severe operational and service deficiencies reported by multiple guests suggest that the potential stress, discomfort, and financial issues far outweigh any perceived benefits of its location. For New Yorkers looking to ensure a pleasant and worry-free experience for themselves or their guests, it would be prudent to strongly consider alternative accommodations with a proven track record of positive guest satisfaction, transparency, and professional management. The public reviews strongly advise against staying at this property for safety and peace of mind.

The Grand NYC Apartments Reviews
⚠️ Caution: Disappointing experience – not recommended ⚠️We stayed at this apartment in New York, booked through Airbnb with full payment made in advance. Unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory and raised several concerns.Upon arrival, we were unexpectedly asked to provide a credit card as a condition to receive the keys. This requirement was not disclosed beforehand and appeared to be outside the platform’s standard procedures.Once inside, the situation did not improve:The apartment did not match the listing description. The air conditioning was not functioning, making the space uncomfortable.Toiletries consisted of just four small sachets of body wash for 4 persons for 6 days.More seriously, the apartment presented several safety concerns such as a kitchenette appeared modified in an unsafe way, with aluminum foil placed under the burners. We chose to leave before the scheduled check-out time and did not use any extra services. The most concerning issue came after our departure.Approximately 15 days later, we were charged $175 without prior notice or authorization. This charge was made outside of Airbnb’s official system. When we contacted the host, Eliza, her response was dismissive and unclear. She mentioned “extra services” such as late check-out, additional towel use and cleaning—none of which we requested or used.Even more troubling, Eliza alluded to a negative review we had posted on Airbnb (published the day before the charge), suggesting it was offensive and possibly the reason behind the additional fee.In our opinion, this listing reflects a lack of transparency and proper guest care. We strongly recommend avoiding this apartment and any others managed by the same host. For your safety and peace of mind, consider alternative accommodations.
May 23, 2025 · Pietro PersicoThis place is ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS. The location is just about the only thing that I can give stars about. If I could give negative stars I would. I got in and the outrages manager says that my payment did not come and made me pay extra. Then when I left a bad review with pictures of mold and mildew, the horrible owner threatened to sue me. I was on an important business call but she kept on calling. DO NOT STAY HERE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!! 😡😡😡😠😠😠
Feb 28, 2025 · Johadi GitariSCAMMED me out of $250. They said they only accepted cash, I gave them $300($50 deposit) for 1 night for my fiancé’s birthday. They didn’t inform us that there was a triple bunkbed(so we couldn’t even sit up) or that we would be sharing a bathroom with an entire floor of people(the bathroom was filthy and there were only 4 showers total, 2 for men and 2 for women). After seeing this we went back downstairs to get a refund and find somewhere else(we weren’t even there for 10 minutes). The worker downstairs said that I’d have to wait for the manager to come back monday to give me the $250 back and he only gave me the $50 deposit back. I also spoke to the manager on the phone and she assured me I’d get my refund on Monday. I came all the way back on Monday only for her to tell me that I couldn’t get my money back and she lied and said that I told her I had sex in the room. We would’ve been there much longer if we were having sex. I called the police and they said that they’ve received several complaints about the manager doing that to people but that it’s a civil issue so I reported them to the BBB and yet somehow they’re still open..
Oct 11, 2024 · kareena clarkeAlthough I only stayed here once and for just one night, it was an awesome stay. Easy online reservation, easy check in, and quick check-out. I believe depending on the room, you have to wait for them to go and check your room for the deposit return, but I waited only about 15 minutes. I'm not sure why you guys have such bad reviews, but I suppose some people had better expectations. Parking garage directly across the street, ESB around the block and The Edge down the block. Close to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. Nonetheless, I would definitely stay again and definitely recommend. 🤘🏽🔥
Jul 27, 2023 · Dez OnerWorst experience EVER!!!! A hostel is more honest, CLEAN that this place! After making two payments through Agoda website, we arriving at the hotel at 1pm and I confirmed with the front desk guy if my reservation, he said that We could only check in at 4pm. So at 5pm we return and the secretary did not know wheres my reservation was and called the "owner". Thick, rude, and outrageous she said the payment had been declined, even though I received a confirmation email. Scam, on the site the offer was $ 35, but she ask $140 in cash or $180 in debit card for the night, I got $ 140 in cash and we went to the room. Tight space for a double bunk, there was no luggage space, but the worst was yet to come, extremely DIRTY sheets, blond hair on the cushions among other dirt disgusting found in the room, the communal bathroom was super disgusting and unhygienic. no mirror in the bathroom. Disgusting, dirty, unfair, bad reception, bad conditions. if you can, spend a little more but you definitely have a quality service anywhere but not at this DISGUSTING PLACE!
