This address places it firmly in the dynamic heart of Midtown Manhattan, a location that offers unparalleled convenience and access to virtually everything New York City has to offer. As highlighted by numerous satisfied guests, the hostel is just a "couple of minutes walk to the subway," specifically being remarkably close to Penn Station. This makes it an ideal spot for anyone arriving via Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), or New Jersey Transit, ensuring a smooth and stress-free transition from your journey to your accommodation.

This means effortless trips to Times Square, the Empire State Building, Broadway's famous theaters, the cultural institutions of Museum Mile, the Financial District, and the charming streets of Greenwich Village. New York Spirit Retreats distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that contribute to its positive reputation, particularly for budget-conscious solo travelers:
- Ideal for Solo Travelers: Repeatedly highlighted in reviews, the hostel creates a particularly comfortable and welcoming environment for individuals exploring the city on their own.
- Exceptional Staff: The emphasis on friendly, polite, positive, and supportive staff members like Sunny and Ravindra is a significant highlight, fostering a warm and helpful atmosphere.
- Prime Midtown Location: Its placement just minutes from Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, and Hudson Yards offers unbeatable accessibility to major transportation hubs and iconic attractions.
- Comfortable and Clean Rooms: While not described as "glitzy," the rooms are consistently noted as "comfy," "cozy," and perfect for those who "just need a place to crash" after a day of exploring.
- Sparkling Clean Bathrooms: A critical factor for any shared accommodation, guests specifically praise the "sparkling clean bathroom" and "great showers."
- Included Breakfast: The complimentary breakfast is a valuable amenity, helping guests save money and start their day energized.
- Value for Money: The combination of prime location, essential amenities, and a friendly atmosphere positions it as an excellent budget-friendly option in an otherwise expensive city.
- Focus on Essentials: The hostel focuses on providing core necessities reliably – a comfy bed, clean facilities, and a supportive environment – rather than superfluous luxuries.
Guests should note that while the experience is highly positive, it's a hostel environment, meaning shared facilities and potentially compact room sizes, which aligns with the "not glitz" expectation.
While New York Spirit Retreats' primary appeal is its consistent value and excellent location for its price point, hostels in New York City, like hotels, sometimes offer specific promotions, though these are typically less frequent or varied than larger hotel chains. Potential promotions or special offers could include:
- Long-Stay Discounts: For guests planning to stay for an extended period, it's always worth inquiring if weekly or monthly rates are available, as these can offer significant savings.
- Direct Booking Incentives: Sometimes, booking directly through the hostel's website or by phone might offer a slightly better rate or a small perk compared to third-party booking sites.
- Off-Season Rates: During less busy travel periods (e.g., specific weeks in January or February, or certain non-holiday weekdays), rates might be more competitive.
Given the strong emphasis on affordability already, the "promotion" is often the inherent value provided by the combination of prime location, friendly service, and included breakfast at a budget price. To discover any current offers or specific rates for your desired dates, it is always best to contact New York Spirit Retreats directly.

May 23, 2025 · Wayne LovedayJust wrapped up a wonderful stay at the New York Spirit Retreat in NYC and couldn't be happier! If you're a solo traveler looking for a comfy, clean, and welcoming spot, this is it. Don't expect glitz, but do expect a comfy bed, cozy room, and sparkling clean bathroom. The staff are absolutely lovely – so polite and positive! Ravindra was very nice and made my stay very happy.Plus, the location is prime – just a couple of minutes walk to the subway and super close to Madison Square Garden and Hudson Yards. Highly recommend!
May 27, 2025 · Rahul BillapatiI had a lovely stay here. The location is convenient, walking distance to Penn Station and Times Square. Room is small and cozy. SUNNY is super kind, helpful, and friendly. They serve breakfast every morning. Highly recommend solo travelers to stay here. Great value!
Jun 01, 2025 · Sun SicongI booked a room here for the great location and cheap price but you get what you pay for. There was this very rude and hostile lady who worked there with an Australian accent who has zero respect and absolutely no customer service skills and was very rude. She yelled at me across my room to turn off my light at 11pm. I worked in the hotel and hospitality industry for 8 years and I’ve never experienced someone so aggressive and rude as her. This hostel has very strict rules and I read them before booking. One morning She NOT the other guest staying there actually woke me up yelling at her for talking on her phone at 10am. Which according to the rules, that is outside the quiet time. I remember the whole conversation and she said to her “no one wants to hear that” while she was on the phone. Then the guest said it’s outside the window of quiet time. On top of her yelling at me though my door, to turn my light off at 11pm, she could have been nicer and quietly knocked on my door and told me in a nicer more respectful manner. I wish I got her name because she’s not professional and extremely hostile and passive aggressive. On my last night, I asked the front desk person if I can have a one hour late checkout and he said it was fine as long as I’m out off the pod by 12pm. Then at 11:30am, the same guy who I spoke to the previous night is telling me I need to get out immediately or else I’ll be charged extra. Do not stay here, it’s a great location but it’s not worth it. The staff expect one person was awful and it felt like I was in a jail cell.
May 30, 2025 · Keli SanfordThe very fact that many of the NYC Attractions are at walkable distance is a huge plus for this accommodation. Rooms though small come with a comfy bed, space to store your luggage underneath your bed. The staff are mindful about the loud noises from the outside and they provide ear plugs to ensure less noise. The place is quite fine with very good service. I specifically thank Sunny for making my stay very comfortable. It might be an uncomfortable situation for people who are hefty and taller than 5'6". You might have to squeeze in your bed and small shared toilets and bathrooms. You should be mindful of the guests who may not have civic sense. Some might be noisy or switch on their room lights night long.
