Umbrella Hotel Bronx Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a highly economical and straightforward accommodation option in the Bronx, the Umbrella Hotel Bronx presents itself as a notable choice. In a city known for its diverse lodging landscape, this establishment caters to a specific niche: guests prioritizing budget-friendly rates and basic amenities over luxury or extensive services. It's important for local users to approach the Umbrella Hotel with a clear understanding of its offerings and environment to ensure their expectations align with the experience provided. This hotel operates on a model that prioritizes affordability, making it a potentially suitable option for very short stays or for those on a strict budget.
The Umbrella Hotel Bronx offers a no-frills approach to lodging, focusing on providing a clean, albeit basic, room for a competitive price. Customer feedback consistently points to its economic rates as a primary draw, making it accessible to a wide range of individuals. However, guests should be prepared for a utilitarian environment. The hotel operates with an emphasis on efficiency, which can sometimes translate to a less personalized customer service experience, as noted by past visitors. While the hotel aims to offer a functional stay, the reviews indicate that the overall atmosphere and amenities reflect its budget-conscious positioning. It is frequently mentioned that the hotel caters to short-term, even hourly, stays, which contributes to a unique operational style. The design and lighting on some floors, described as "dark neon purple," along with ambient noise from other rooms, suggest an atmosphere that diverges from traditional hotel expectations. Despite these characteristics, the hotel's fundamental purpose is to provide a bed and a roof at a low cost, which it generally achieves.
The Umbrella Hotel Bronx is located at 681 Elton Ave, Bronx, NY 10455, USA. This address places it within a dynamic and densely populated part of the Bronx. Understanding the specific nature of this neighborhood is crucial for New Yorkers considering a stay.
In terms of accessibility, the hotel is situated a short walk from a subway station, providing a significant advantage for guests relying on New York City's extensive public transportation network. This proximity to the subway allows for relatively straightforward travel to and from other parts of the Bronx, Manhattan, and beyond. This is a key benefit for budget-conscious travelers looking to explore the city without incurring significant taxi or rideshare expenses.
The immediate vicinity around the hotel offers various fast-food options, catering to guests looking for quick and convenient meal solutions. This can be particularly useful for those on a tight schedule or budget, providing accessible dining choices without the need to venture far.
However, it's important to note that public feedback regarding the neighborhood often describes it as not feeling the "safest" and sometimes mentions cleanliness issues, including "garbage." While such observations are subjective and typical of many urban environments, they are a consistent theme in visitor reviews and should be taken into consideration by potential guests. This suggests that while public transport access is good, guests might prefer to limit walking in the immediate area, especially during off-peak hours. For those who prioritize a neighborhood with a higher perceived sense of safety or cleanliness, these aspects of the location may be a significant factor in their decision-making. Despite these considerations, the hotel's location offers practicality for those who are familiar with navigating diverse urban settings and prioritize direct access to public transit and affordable local amenities. Some guests might find it beneficial to use ride-sharing services like Uber for reaching the train station if they have concerns about walking through the immediate area.
The Umbrella Hotel Bronx provides a very basic set of services, focusing on the essentials of a short-term, economical stay:
- Guest Rooms: The core service is the provision of guest rooms, generally described as "clean enough," offering a bed and basic furnishings.
- Key Card Access: Guests are provided with a key card for room access, a standard security feature.
- TV Remote: A TV remote is provided for in-room entertainment, indicating the presence of televisions in the rooms.
- 24/7 Check-in/Reception: While reviews note the reception staff can be "unhelpful," the hotel operates with a front desk capable of handling check-ins, even by the hour, suggesting a 24/7 presence.
- Hourly Rate Option: A distinct service offered is the option for hourly rates, catering to very short-term stays, which is clearly displayed upon entry.
The Umbrella Hotel Bronx is characterized by several specific features and highlights that are consistently mentioned in customer feedback:
- Economical Pricing: The most prominent highlight is its affordability. The hotel is widely recognized for offering highly competitive rates, including hourly options, making it one of the most budget-friendly choices in the area. This is a significant draw for individuals prioritizing cost savings.
- Proximity to Subway: Its location within a short walk to a subway station is a key advantage, providing convenient access to New York City's public transportation network. This allows guests to easily navigate the city without relying on taxis or private vehicles.
- Abundance of Fast Food Options Nearby: The surrounding neighborhood offers plenty of fast-food establishments, providing quick and accessible dining choices for guests on the go or those looking for inexpensive meals.
- Unique Interior Ambiance: The hotel features a distinctive interior aesthetic, particularly on some floors, described as having "dark neon purple lighting." This creates a specific, non-traditional atmosphere.
- Basic, Functional Rooms: While not luxurious, the rooms are generally described as "clean enough," providing a fundamental space for rest. Guests should expect a no-frills environment, where functionality takes precedence over aesthetic refinement.
- Air Conditioning with Limited Settings: Rooms are equipped with air conditioning, though feedback indicates it may have only two settings (on or off), potentially leading to rooms being "bloody cold" even when set to higher temperatures. This suggests a basic climate control system.
As a budget-focused hotel with operations that include hourly rates, the Umbrella Hotel Bronx does not typically engage in traditional "promotions or special offers" in the same way a larger, full-service hotel might. Its core "promotion" is its consistently low and competitive pricing, which is designed to attract guests seeking the most economical stay possible. However, based on the provided information, we can infer how specific policies or pricing structures act as their form of 'offers':
- Competitive Hourly Rates: The most significant and explicit "offer" is the availability of hourly rates, which are "clearly shown" upon entry. This targets a very specific market segment and allows for extreme flexibility for guests needing a very short-term resting spot without committing to a full night's stay. This pricing model itself serves as a unique selling proposition and a constant "special offer" for its intended clientele.
- Affordable Overnight Stays: Beyond hourly rates, the overall pricing for overnight stays is positioned to be highly economical. This low base rate is the primary draw for guests on a tight budget, effectively acting as a standing promotion for affordable accommodation in the Bronx.
- Early Check-in/Late Check-out Fee ($50): While not a "promotion" in the traditional sense, the hotel's policy of charging $50 for early check-in (and likely a similar fee for late check-out, though not explicitly stated) is a clear transactional offer. Guests can choose to pay this fee for the convenience of accessing their room outside standard hours, making it a specific service available at a set price. This provides flexibility, albeit at a cost, for those with unconventional travel schedules.
The Umbrella Hotel Bronx can be contacted using the following information:
- Address: 681 Elton Ave, Bronx, NY 10455, USA
- Phone: (718) 924-2100
- Mobile Phone: +1 718-924-2100
These contact numbers provide direct access to the hotel's reception or front desk. For any inquiries regarding reservations, room availability, hourly rates, check-in policies (including early check-in fees), or general information about the hotel, guests can use these phone numbers. It is always advisable to call ahead, especially for specific inquiries or to confirm policies, as this can help manage expectations and ensure a smoother experience, particularly given past feedback about reception interactions. Using the phone numbers is the most direct way to get real-time information and confirm details before a visit.
For locals in the New York region, especially those in the Bronx or nearby areas, the Umbrella Hotel Bronx is primarily suitable for specific, niche needs, mainly centered around extreme budget consciousness and short-term utility. Its most compelling suitability lies in its highly economical pricing, including the option for hourly rates. This makes it an accessible choice for individuals seeking a very affordable place to rest for a few hours, or for an overnight stay where cost is the absolute top priority. It serves as a pragmatic solution for those who require only the most basic accommodations and are willing to forgo traditional hotel amenities and services for significant savings.
The hotel's proximity to a subway station is another key factor in its suitability. For New Yorkers who rely on public transportation, this direct access simplifies travel to and from the hotel, reducing the need for costly taxis or ride-shares. This makes it practical for short stops between appointments or for transient stays where easy city navigation is essential. While the neighborhood may present certain challenges in terms of perceived safety and cleanliness, as highlighted in reviews, its location does offer convenient access to public transit and nearby fast-food options, catering to immediate needs.
Ultimately, the Umbrella Hotel Bronx is best suited for local users who are fully aware of its budget-tier positioning and have adjusted their expectations accordingly. It is not designed for a luxurious or service-rich experience but rather as a functional, no-frills option for very brief stays or for individuals where cost is the overriding decision factor, embodying the "you pay what you get for" ethos. It represents a functional solution for those seeking basic shelter at the lowest possible price point in the New York metropolitan area.

Umbrella Hotel Bronx Reviews
We have read the reviews when we book this place, generally it is nice ish room with rude and unhelpful receptionist…. And they is true. The place is a short walk to a subway station with plenty of fast food options around. The neighbourhood doesn’t fell the safest but that’s sort of expected…. So moving on.As you enter the “hotel”, you are met with a short queue of people checking in by the hour with hourly rate clearly shown. You think to yourself great. You are given your key card and your tv remote, you think okay. You get to your floor and is dark neon purple lighting with loud tv noises from another room….. think you probably know my thoughts at this point…. First thing we did when we enter our room was check for hidden cameras😂, I have never done that ever in any hostel or hotel I have stayed in.Room was clean enough but the air only have two setting, on or off. Bloody cold even if it set it to 75 degrees. You cannot leave you bags, well you can, you just pay $50 for early checking as they kept saying when we asked over the phone. So yeah, you pay what you get for, never again.
May 07, 2025 · Teddy NgDon't trust the pictures, first of all the neighborhood is dirty and dangerous, full of garbage and you should take an uber to reach train station. The 1st room wasn't cleaned even with fresh blood drops in the floor. The second room has unwashed linens and the sheets has holes. The carpet smells bad. So please do not come there. Put 200 and go to springhill suites
May 26, 2025 · Luis CastilloFrom unruly, unhelpful and poorly trained staff to an unwelcoming environment with dilapidated facilities; this is NOT a hotel! It is a pigsty... dirty, unkempt and roundly of bad taste. I stayed here and regreted every minute of it. Do not be deceived by the photos advertised. The place will struggle for even a half star rating. This is clearly a business run on a "make-a-quick-buck from the unsuspecting public mentality". If Expedia, TripAdvisor or any other platform by whatever name called suggests/recommends this so-called hotel, do not fall for it.
May 26, 2025 · Sanchez MaloneyStay there for two days and the first night they stole my things I was NOT able to claim anything. The area is not safe at night and the insurance policy won’t cover stolen items from the house keepers. Because let me honest who else would have access to your room. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL, i which I would have read the reviews because booking it.
Apr 20, 2025 · Ms. Lucy GuillenTwice this hotel did not accommodate me whatsoever seriously not returning to this hotel. Unreasonable prices with a $50 fee to get in 20 minutes earlier then check in. Accidentally booked the wrong date and was told to deal with it even after offering to pay the difference. At that the rooms are tiny, gross, and showers don’t work. Will not return and i do encourage you to spend your money at any other hotel. Not worth the stress OR the money.
