Woodside Memorial Park Introduce
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Woodside, Queens, Woodside Memorial Park serves as a significant local landmark and a gathering spot for the community. More than just a patch of green, this park holds a special place in the hearts of many New Yorkers, honoring the sacrifices made by members of the Woodside community in various conflicts, including World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. It's a testament to the neighborhood's rich history and enduring spirit. While it may be a modest size, its location and purpose make it a meaningful public space for reflection and connection. It’s a place where locals can pause, enjoy a moment of quiet, or participate in community activities. As part of New York City’s Greenstreets program, it represents an ongoing effort to transform urban spaces into inviting green havens.
Woodside Memorial Park is conveniently situated at the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and Woodside Avenue in Woodside, NY 11377, USA. This prime location places it at a bustling nexus of the neighborhood, making it incredibly accessible for residents and visitors alike. Its position between two major avenues ensures it’s easily reachable by public transportation, a key consideration for navigating New York City. The park is a short distance from major transit hubs, allowing for easy access via subway and bus lines that serve the Woodside area. This central spot makes it an ideal meeting point or a quick stop for those commuting or running errands in the vicinity. Whether you're coming from another part of Queens or venturing out from Manhattan, reaching Woodside Memorial Park is straightforward and hassle-free, contributing to its role as a true community focal point.
While Woodside Memorial Park is not a sprawling recreational facility, it offers essential services and amenities that cater to the needs of local residents.
- Public Benches: The park features several sets of wooden benches, offering a place for visitors to sit, rest, and observe the neighborhood's daily rhythm. These benches provide a much-needed respite in a busy urban environment.
- Memorials: The park is home to a significant marble monument dedicated to community members who served and died in various wars, serving as a powerful reminder of their sacrifices. This is the park's central and most profound "service," offering a space for remembrance and historical recognition.
- Green Space: As a Greenstreets project, the park aims to provide a pleasant green space within a paved urban landscape. It includes young trees and new plantings, contributing to a more natural and calming environment.
- Drinking Fountain: A drinking fountain is available, providing a practical amenity for those visiting the park, especially on warmer days.
- Flagpole: A flagpole with a yardarm is present, symbolizing community pride and often flying the American flag.
Woodside Memorial Park, though not expansive, boasts several distinctive features that enhance its appeal and significance to the Woodside community.
- Historic Memorial Monument: The centerpiece of the park is a large monument crafted from smooth gray marble. This striking memorial bears a golden inscription: “WOODSIDE MEMORIAL PARK: Dedicated to all members of the community who made the supreme sacrifice for the good and welfare of their country and for the peace and freedom of mankind. The World Wars, Korea and Viet Nam.” This monument serves as a poignant reminder of local heroes and is a crucial element of the park’s identity.
- Strategic Location: Its placement at the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and Woodside Avenue makes it a highly visible and easily accessible landmark. This busy intersection ensures that the memorial is seen by many, fostering a continuous connection to the community’s history.
- Greenstreets Program Participant: The park is part of the Greenstreets program, an initiative by NYC Parks and the Department of Transportation to convert paved street properties into vibrant green spaces. This means the park incorporates new plantings, including Willowleaf cotoneaster, Siberian cypress, lillyturf, cranesbill, Bloody geranium, and Evergreen barrenwort, adding to its aesthetic appeal and ecological value.
- Paved Pathways: The park is paved with square and hexagonal tiles, creating accessible and well-defined pathways for visitors to stroll through or pause.
- Local Hub for Observances: Beyond being a static memorial, Woodside Memorial Park is often a focal point for community observances, particularly on holidays like Memorial Day. It is a key location during the annual Woodside Memorial Day Parade, where tributes are paid to fallen service members.
As a public park managed by NYC Parks, Woodside Memorial Park doesn't typically offer commercial promotions or special discounts in the traditional sense. Its "offer" to the community is primarily its existence as a free, accessible green space and a place of remembrance. However, its value to the local community lies in the free events and public gatherings it hosts or serves as a starting point for. For instance, the park is a central location for the annual Woodside Fall Festival, a community event that brings together local vendors, musicians, and residents for a day of festivities. It also plays a role in the Woodside Memorial Day Parade, offering a space for solemn reflection and community unity. These events, while not "promotions," are indeed special offers to the community, providing free entertainment, cultural enrichment, and opportunities for social connection. Keep an eye on local community calendars and Woodside neighborhood associations' announcements for upcoming free events that may utilize or celebrate Woodside Memorial Park.

Woodside Memorial Park Reviews
It Pains me to say this, but EACH TIME I PASSES The Woodside Memorial Park, 🏞️ It ALWAYS LOOKS NASTY, 🤢 ESPECIALLY ON THE BENCHES THAT I'VE NEVER SAT IN THAT PARK EITHER. But Still, Overall the Park looks Appropriate & Decent "if it was clean."
Feb 07, 2024 · Victoria “ru.V. ru.” BeanIt is small park between Roosevelt and Woodside avenue in Queens, NY.Most of the time is occupied by many homeless, dirty , scary looking people. Definitely not a pretty spot to just sit around an enjoy a nice day. It is dirty, full garbage.
