Hotel Giraffe by Library Hotel Collection Reviews
Great service and location was enough away to be less insane, but close enough to the tourist sights to get there no problem. Staff was phenomenal and attentive. I booked a suite because I'm a snob and like to be comfortable and able to sit and rest. The sofa bed (used as a sofa) was horrible. We had no reason to pull the bed out, but cannot imagine it being at all comfortable. The cushions slid off just trying to sit on the sofa and it was not at all comfortable as a resting spot. All the chairs were very upright and victorian-esque, so I found the living space to be too uncomfortable to really relax and sit back after long days walking the city.Breakfast wasn't much of anything, mostly toast, coffee, some fruit, bagels, instant oats and things like that. No real complaints, but don't expect a hot breakfast. It was nice having access to coffee and teas along with Cliff bars for a quick grab and go 24/7.We didn't eat at the restaurant at the hotel, so nothing to add there. The rooftop garden is small but nice. Weather wasn't great for it during our stay, so we didn't spend much time up there. Not much of a view from the rooftop as it's a shorter building than the one across the street, but you can look around a bit from the edge and it's perfectly comfy. More comfortable than the living space in the suite.Fairly easy access to the subways depending on where you are headed. Not a terrible walk to Union Square, but you can catch other trains from closer stations as well. The glass door for the bathroom was curious. It was fine as it faced a hallway and I was traveling with my spouse, so privacy wasn't as concerning. You can see right into the bathroom though from the hall even with the rolling glass. Could be an issue for traveling with family, but in that event, you likely aren't booking the king suite. You can see out and be seen when sitting on the toilet if that's an issue for you. While I would not stay there again, I wouldn't discourage others from staying there. It's clean and the staff is awesome. Not too far to walk to some great places. 24 Diner NYC is a quick walk and decent food at perhaps some of the lowest prices we saw in NY. Pete's Tavern and Oscar Wilde for food and drinks are also convenient walks. On one return to the room, everyone working looked like they were on break from a Broadway show - beautiful people and so poised. I half expected a scene to break out in the lobby and the concierge and others to start a dance routine then some hidden camera show to reveal itself.
May 27, 2025 · JayOne of our very favorites!! We love the warm and welcome vibes. Great location to the subway but yet in a quieter area of the city. Gabby was especially helpful this trip and went out of her way to meet our needs! Hotel Giraffe 🦒 for the win again. ❤️🥰
Jun 01, 2025 · Natalie ArnettWe booked a stay at Hotel Giraffe based on reviews and location. We spent 3 nights with our two kids (12 and 14 yrs old). Overall, it was a great stay. The staff was incredibly friendly. The continental breakfast and complimentary snacks/drinks was great. The hotel location was perfect (about 8 min walk from subway). Good value! The room was comfortable enough for 4 people (2 queen beds). The beds could have been more comfortable and the room temp/HVAC was a little temperamental. But overall I would definitely recommend this hotel :)
Feb 04, 2025 · Rachel BarakWe'd been coming to this hotel for many, many years! While we still believe the staff to be FANTASTIC folks...SADLY, for us, this most recent visit trip will be our last. We were disappointed! In our view, Hotel Ownership has let this place down. Many years ago this was truly a five STAR boutique hotel. NOT any longer. They have eliminated (using COVID as the excuse in all likelihood) added / included services like a free glass of wine in the evenings...with a snack.ADDITIONALLY, it's OBVIOUS to us that the Hotel needs a makeover as the decor (carpet in the rooms , window coverings etc) are OLD and need updating. Again, this place used to be a classy boutique hotel. It no longer is IOHO.Finally, while it can't be "PROVED"..we are convinced the room had bed bugs. Yes, management will claim the staff "inspects" etc etc etc. They'll "say" guests who followed us didn't complain. Well, good for them. All I will say is, after all these years of returning to this Hotel, we no longer will be returning. It's no longer worth the money.Again, the staff is FANTASTIC. BUT......BEFORE BOOKING A ROOM HERE.......Do yourself a favor and STUDY the trends in the reviews...and make your own judgement. We will not be back until / if the Hotel ownership does right by its guests and cleans this place up with a major facelift...in an attempt to recapture the Five Star Boutique feel it once had years ago. VERY SAD.
May 11, 2025 · Jim WalshStaff and location keep this hotel at a decent rating. I have been staying here on and off for about 8 years. I have recommended it to countless travelers planning a trip to NY. However, rates have gone up tremendously as amenities and quality have gone down. No more evening happy hour, rooms are dated, walls need a new coat of paint, duvet had tears, blankets were clean but stained due to age, bathtub was stained, 4 of us but 1 slipper and two robes provided. The staff is friendly and service is quick when requested. It must be management having cut back on the budget. The last stay was the most disappointing as it has lost its charm of being that special little boutique hotel in middle of a bustling city.BTW - Doors to bathroom are slightly see through (stained glass panel) so there could be a privacy issue between roommates. Staff member came to drop off towels- rather than knock, she let herself in with the key, even with the do not disturb sign up. Luckily, husband was able to intercept her before she got an eyeful of me in the bathroom. It was an honest mistake on her part but I am just glad she didn't make it far into the room.
