For New Yorkers, or those hosting guests in our city, finding quality, affordable "lodging" that doesn't compromise on location or cleanliness can often feel like an impossible task. The American Dream Bed and Breakfast, located at 168 E 24th St, New York, NY 10010, USA, is precisely that kind of rare find. It's not your typical bustling hostel with dorm rooms; instead, it offers private rooms with shared facilities, striking a perfect balance between privacy and budget-consciousness.
This charming establishment is a testament to the idea that you can experience the heart of Manhattan without breaking the bank. It caters to those who prioritize exploring the city over extravagant room amenities, providing a clean, comfortable, and incredibly convenient base. From the moment you arrive, you'll find a welcoming atmosphere and a focus on the essentials that truly matter. This article will delve into what makes American Dream Bed and Breakfast a highly recommended choice for locals seeking a smart stay, or for out-of-towners looking for an authentic and accessible New York experience, highlighting its prime location, practical services, notable features, and why it's a place many guests are "already missing."
The American Dream Bed and Breakfast boasts an exceptional location at 168 E 24th St, New York, NY 10010, USA. This places it squarely in the vibrant Flatiron District, a coveted neighborhood in the heart of Manhattan. For New Yorkers, this location is ideal, offering immediate access to a mix of historic architecture, trendy restaurants, and bustling commercial areas, all without the overwhelming tourist density of Times Square.
You'll find yourself just moments away from the iconic Flatiron Building, Madison Square Park (home to public art and the original Shake Shack), and Union Square, a major hub for farmers' markets, street performers, and various events. The neighborhood is known for its energetic yet approachable vibe, with a diverse array of dining, shopping, and entertainment options right on your doorstep.
Accessibility from the American Dream Bed and Breakfast is truly a highlight. A bus stop is conveniently located exactly outside the entrance, offering immediate and easy public transport. Furthermore, major subway lines are just a few minutes' walk away. The 6 train at 23rd Street is incredibly close, providing direct access to Midtown East, Grand Central, and Downtown Manhattan. The N, Q, R, W trains at Union Square and the 1 train on Seventh Avenue are also within easy reach, ensuring seamless connections to virtually any part of New York City. This robust public transportation network means that whether you’re heading to Broadway, a museum on the Upper East Side, or exploring Brooklyn, your journey will be efficient and straightforward, making it an excellent base for experiencing all that New York has to offer.
The American Dream Bed and Breakfast offers a streamlined set of services focused on providing comfort and convenience, particularly catering to budget-conscious travelers while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction:
Private Rooms: Unlike many hostels, this establishment offers private rooms, ensuring a personal and secure space for each guest, which is a significant advantage for those seeking more privacy.
Shared Bathrooms and Showers: Located on each floor, the shared bathrooms and showers are meticulously maintained and "always clean," no matter the time of day. They are consistently stocked with essential toiletries (soap, hand paper, toilet paper).
Complimentary Breakfast: Guests can enjoy an "adequate breakfast" first thing in the morning. This includes both items brought in from Dunkin’ Donuts and healthier alternatives such as fruits, oatmeal, and bread, providing a convenient and nourishing start to the day.
Coffee Availability: Free coffee is provided every morning, a welcome amenity for guests eager to start their day or needing a pick-me-up.
Hair Dryer (Use and Return): For added convenience, hair dryers are available for guests to use and return, eliminating the need to carry one while traveling, a detail appreciated by many.
Excellent Staff Service: The staff, described as "all helpful every time we needed something" and "extremely friendly," provide exceptional service, contributing significantly to a pleasant and accommodating stay.
Free WiFi: While not explicitly mentioned in all reviews, budget accommodations typically offer complimentary internet access to keep guests connected.
Luggage Storage: Though not explicitly stated in the provided reviews, many establishments of this type offer luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures, enhancing convenience.
The American Dream Bed and Breakfast stands out with several key features and highlights that contribute to its "amazing value for money" and high recommendation:
Unbeatable Location: Situated "in the heart of Manhattan" within the Flatiron District, it offers superb walking access to major landmarks like the Flatiron Building, Madison Square Park, and Union Square.
Exceptional Cleanliness: Consistently praised, the shared bathrooms and showers are noted for being "always clean," a critical factor for shared facilities and a significant highlight for guest comfort.
Private Rooms (Not Dorms): A crucial distinction from traditional hostels, offering individual private rooms ensures a sense of personal space and security, enhancing privacy for guests.
Complimentary Breakfast: The provision of an "adequate breakfast" with both Dunkin' Donuts options and healthier alternatives is a valuable inclusion, saving guests time and money each morning.
Friendly and Helpful Staff: The employees are universally described as "excellent," "helpful," and "extremely friendly," creating a welcoming and accommodating atmosphere that leaves a lasting positive impression.
Convenient Public Transport Access: With a bus stop directly outside and subway stations just minutes away, exploring New York City is incredibly easy and efficient.
Budget-Friendly Price Point: Offering an affordable option in a prime Manhattan location is a key highlight, providing outstanding value compared to many other NYC accommodations.
Essential Amenities Provided: The availability of essentials like soap, hand paper, toilet paper in bathrooms, and the convenient use-and-return hair dryer demonstrate a thoughtful approach to guest needs.
Calm and Pleasant Stay: Despite being in a busy area, the overall experience is described as "so pleasant," suggesting a comfortable and generally peaceful environment indoors (with earplugs recommended for outside noise).
As a budget-friendly bed and breakfast, American Dream Bed and Breakfast primarily offers value through its consistently competitive pricing and included amenities, rather than through seasonal promotional codes or discounts like larger hotel chains. Its core "promotions" are built into its operating model:
Exceptional Value for Money: This is the most significant "promotion." Guests consistently highlight the excellent price point for a private room in a prime Manhattan location, especially when compared to the cost of hotels.
Complimentary Breakfast: The included breakfast, offering both pre-made items and healthier options, is a substantial saving on daily meal costs in New York City, effectively acting as a valuable daily offer.
Free Coffee: The availability of free coffee in the mornings is a small but appreciated perk that adds to the overall value without extra charge.
Provided Essentials: Having all bathroom essentials and a shared hair dryer (use and return) readily available avoids the need for guests to purchase or carry these items, contributing to a hassle-free and cost-effective stay.
While specific, temporary discounts aren't typically advertised for this type of establishment, booking directly or monitoring reputable budget travel sites might occasionally reveal minor rate variations. However, the consistent "amazing value" is the primary and ongoing offer that draws repeat guests.

Perfect budget stay in a great location in Manhattan, in flatiron district, with bus stop exactly outside and few minutes walk to subway.Service was excellent, the girls were all helpful everytime we needed something and generally perfect. They are all private rooms and they share bathroom and shower in each floor. The bathrooms and showers were always clean, no matter what. They also had all the essentials (soap&hand paper&toilet paper) at all times. It was so pleasant to have coffee first thing in the morning and an adequate breakfast, before starting the day.It was also so convenient that it has hair dryer (use and return), so no need to carry one.I highly recommend it and am already missing these days!
Apr 09, 2025 · ElmanOverall amazing value for money.Pros: price, location (in the heart of Manhattan), breakfast (food was brought in from Dunkin’ Donuts but also healthier alternatives were available (fruits, oatmeal, bread, etc.)), employees (all extremely friendly)Cons (which I expected so it didn’t bother me at all): rooms are very small but super small (didn’t spend much time there so I didn’t care), pretty loud due to outside noise (Bring ear plugs!)Overall I definitely recommend. Will go there again next time I’m in NYC

May 04, 2025 · Uğur KARAKOÇPerfect economy place. The biggest disadvantage is the size of the room. It’s really tiny. We’ve spent 10 nights there and at the end of the trip we felt very claustrophobic. But for shorter stay would be no problem.Everything else were very good:Super clean. Shared bathrooms were always clean so don’t worry about sharing toilet and bathrooms there. The service is excellent, very nice and helpful.Breakfast is basic but tasty - always fresh fruits which is a big plus! Fresh bagels, donuts, coffee, jams.Perfect location close to the metro and some attractions.
Feb 16, 2025 · Wojciech AdamczykGreat hostel in midtown Manhattan. The price is really great value, cheapest you'll find but that doesn't mean it's crap - quite the opposite. Very warm, lots of facilities (washing, umbrellas etc) and a great breakfast to start the day. Close to 6 and other lines by Madison Sq Park. Only downsides were the rooms facing 3rd Ave are pretty noisey and nowhere to hang things in 2nd floor toilet. Otherwise highly recommend.
