Hyatt Place New York / Chelsea Reviews
I recently stayed at Hyatt Place New York / Chelsea from May 22–25 during my first-ever trip to NYC. I was really looking forward to the stay — the location is fantastic (my favorite part for sure!), and the front desk team was consistently friendly and helpful when they weren’t having their side conversations with one another. That said, my experience was ultimately disappointing, and I won’t be returning to this particular location-which saddens me to say. When I arrived at the listed check-in time, I was told my room would be ready in five minutes. I ended up waiting over 30 minutes in the lobby, which was a frustrating start. Surprisingly, this day, check-in time wasn’t that busy, so I awkwardly sat in the lobby for what felt like a while. However, I did really appreciate being placed on a high floor with an amazing view — that was a nice touch. However, things went downhill from there. The elevators were chaotic, and on more than one occasion I was asked to get off by staff who needed to use them, which was awkward and inconvenient. The most serious issue was with my room (Room #3006), which had a major leak in the bathroom ceiling. The first night, I woke up to water dripping steadily from the vent. By the second night, the leak had worsened, forming a hole in the ceiling with water and debris coming through. It was unsettling, and I had to use every towel in the room just to manage the mess.I reported the issue to the front desk, and while I was offered a room change, it was only if I moved immediately — which wasn’t feasible as I had plans and my partner wasn’t there. I asked to move later that evening and was told that wasn’t an option. Maintenance checked the room while I was out, but by that point, the damage (and my discomfort) was already done.To add to the confusion, I had paid for a 2 p.m. checkout when booking, but was initially told I had to leave at noon. After some back and forth, my original late checkout was honored, but the inconsistency just added to the frustration. Please be mindful when you select the $20 add-on via the app when you book-it likely may not be honored without that back and forth banter. While I did receive some Hyatt points as a gesture, I don’t feel it adequately reflects the level of disruption and discomfort I experienced. It certainly wasn’t enough to make me consider staying here again. Such a bummer! This trip was important to me, and I had really hoped for a more positive stay. Unfortunately, that just wasn’t the case. NYC however is incredible - so i definitely be coming back more frequently.
May 28, 2025 · Patrick BickmannMy recent 4-day stay at the Hyatt Place in Chelsea offered a solid experience with some notable highlights and minor drawbacks. The rooms are impressive—modern, surprisingly spacious by NYC standards, and meticulously maintained. Cleanliness is clearly a priority here, with everything from the bathroom to the bedding in excellent condition. The true showstopper, however, was the view. Simply stunning! Waking up to that NYC skyline each morning was truly breathtaking and worth every penny.Breakfast was included in our stay and proved to be more than adequate. The selection offered enough variety to keep us satisfied throughout our visit, making for a convenient start to each day of exploring the city. There were a couple of minor issues worth noting. The ventilation system noise was quite loud—something to consider if you're a light sleeper. It created a constant background hum that proved somewhat disruptive during the night. Additionally, be prepared for what I'd call "the elevator rush" between 8-9 AM. During this peak time, you might find yourself waiting longer than expected to get downstairs, so plan accordingly if you have morning commitments.Despite these small inconveniences, the Hyatt Place Chelsea provided excellent value with its prime location, clean accommodations, and those unforgettable views. A solid choice for anyone looking to stay in this vibrant neighborhood during their NYC adventure.
Mar 23, 2025 · Brian PascoliI had a very pleasant stay at Hyatt Place Chelsea. The hotel is modern, clean, and located in a perfect spot to explore Manhattan. The staff was friendly and thoughtful — I was celebrating my birthday, and they made it extra special by leaving a personalized birthday message, balloons, M&Ms, and even upgrading my room. These small gestures really made a difference and made me feel welcome. The room was comfortable and had a beautiful view. The only minor issue was the elevator wait times, which were sometimes a bit long during peak hours, but overall it didn’t impact my experience.I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting New York City and would love to stay here again!
Apr 27, 2025 · Giorgia MainardiThe folks who work here are A+. The location is great. Small rooms, but standard for NYC. Walkable from Moynihan Train Hall. The elevators are insufficient to handle the volume. If you are on a tight schedule you’ll to give yourself at least a 20 minute grace period in the morning. You almost have to ride the elevator up to get down. And the setup is odd with a large space between both sets of elevators. You have to sprint in between them. But our room on the 27th floor had a great view.
Apr 17, 2025 · Aimie HGreat Hotel! Upon our request for the best possible view, not only did they accommodate us, but they also upgraded our room category at no additional cost. The rooms were modern and very clean, thanks to the daily housekeeping service which made sure they looked like new every time we returned in the evening. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful, addressing any questions or requests we had.During peak times, the elevator wait could be up to 10 minutes, with frequent stops on multiple floors, which obviously is quite annoying. Breakfast was also only satisfactory but not great.Nevertheless, amazing overall experience, especially in regards the hotel's central location. Can definitely recommend!
