Then you should know about The Dutch Hotel Long Island City, operated by Sonder. Nestled in the dynamic and rapidly evolving neighborhood of Long Island City (LIC), this hotel offers a unique lodging experience that blends the comforts of a private space with the essential amenities you need for a hassle-free stay. Whether you're hosting out-of-town guests, need a temporary base for a local project, or simply want a change of scenery with easy access to Manhattan, The Dutch Hotel is designed with your needs in mind.
Long Island City has transformed into one of NYC's most exciting boroughs, boasting a thriving arts scene, fantastic dining, and unparalleled views of the Manhattan skyline. The Dutch Hotel, with Sonder's innovative approach to hospitality, aims to seamlessly integrate you into this vibrant community. It's built for the independent traveler who appreciates efficiency, cleanliness, and a prime location without the frills (or costs) of a traditional full-service hotel. This means you get a straightforward, comfortable, and well-situated place to call home during your visit, allowing you to focus on exploring everything that Long Island City and the rest of New York has to offer.
The Dutch Hotel Long Island City, operated by Sonder, is conveniently situated at 39-35 27th Street, Long Island City, NY 11101. This address places it firmly in the heart of Long Island City, a vibrant and rapidly developing neighborhood in Queens known for its stunning skyline views, thriving arts scene, and excellent connectivity to Manhattan and other boroughs.
The location boasts exceptional accessibility, particularly for those relying on New York City's extensive subway system. The hotel is noted for being "near the subway stations," which is a significant advantage for navigating the city. Several major subway lines are within easy walking distance, including:
The N and W lines at the 39th Avenue-Dutch Kills station, typically just a few minutes' walk away. These lines offer direct and rapid service to Midtown Manhattan, including Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Herald Square, making it incredibly convenient for sightseeing, business meetings, or Broadway shows.
The 7 train at the Queensboro Plaza station, which is also a short walk. The 7 train is an express line that quickly transports riders to Grand Central Terminal, Bryant Park, and Hudson Yards, providing another excellent route into Manhattan.
The E, M, R lines at the Queens Plaza station, which is also a very accessible hub. These lines offer further connections to various parts of Manhattan, including Midtown and Lower Manhattan, as well as deeper into Queens.
Beyond the subway, numerous local bus routes serve the Long Island City area, providing additional options for getting around. While the review mentions the "area does feel a bit unsafe," Long Island City has undergone significant development and generally sees high foot traffic due to its popularity and numerous residential buildings, restaurants, and businesses. As with any urban environment, it's always advisable to be aware of your surroundings, especially late at night.
For those traveling by car, while street parking can be challenging in LIC, there are often private parking garages available in the vicinity. However, given the superior public transit options, guests will find it very easy to explore New York City without the need for a personal vehicle. The close proximity to major roadways also offers relatively easy access for those arriving by taxi or ride-sharing services from airports. Overall, The Dutch Hotel's location in LIC provides a highly practical and well-connected base for experiencing New York City.
The Dutch Hotel Long Island City, operated by Sonder, offers a streamlined set of services designed to provide a comfortable and independent stay, aligning with Sonder's tech-forward approach to hospitality. While it may not feature the extensive services of a full-service luxury hotel, it prioritizes essential conveniences and modern living.
Private Guest Rooms: The core service is the provision of clean and adequately sized private guest rooms. These rooms are designed for comfort and functionality, serving as a personal sanctuary during your stay. Reviews confirm rooms are "big enough and clean."
Self-Service Amenities (Towels, etc.): A key aspect of Sonder's model is self-sufficiency. As noted in a review, "your room won’t get cleaned during your stay so you have to grab clean towels etc yourself." This implies a system where guests can access fresh linens and other necessities from a designated area, promoting an independent and eco-conscious stay. While this may differ from traditional hotel service, it allows for flexibility and potentially lower costs.
Luggage Storage: The hotel provides convenient luggage storage facilities, typically located in a downstairs lounge or designated area. This is a crucial service for guests arriving before check-in or departing after check-out, allowing them to explore the city without their bags. The review mentions, "The lounge downstairs has luggage storage."
Coffee Service: Complimentary coffee is available in the downstairs lounge, providing a welcoming amenity for guests, especially in the mornings. This adds a nice touch and a place to relax. "The lounge downstairs has luggage storage and coffee."
24/7 Virtual Support / Phone Assistance: While there isn't always a physical front desk staff, Sonder operates with 24/7 virtual support. As one reviewer noted, "There was a phone number to call." This means assistance is available around the clock via phone for check-in issues, questions, or concerns, even if it took some time to connect in one instance.
Nighttime Security Guard: For added peace of mind, there is a nighttime security guard on premises. This physical presence, as highlighted by a helpful guard assisting a guest with late check-in, provides an additional layer of security and on-site assistance when needed.
Digital Check-in Process: Sonder properties often utilize a digital check-in process, which requires "pre-work to complete" online before arrival. While this might be new for some guests, it's designed for efficiency, allowing for a smoother, self-guided entry into the room once the process is complete. This digital approach is a hallmark of Sonder's tech-enabled service.
These services collectively aim to provide a modern, efficient, and comfortable stay, particularly appealing to those who value independence and a streamlined experience.
The Dutch Hotel Long Island City, operated by Sonder, boasts several appealing features and highlights that contribute to its suitability for both New Yorkers and visitors looking for a convenient and comfortable stay in LIC.
Excellent City Views from Terrace: A standout feature is the "great view of the city" from the terrace on the 8th floor. This communal outdoor space offers a fantastic vantage point to take in the iconic Manhattan skyline, a perfect spot for relaxation, morning coffee, or evening unwinding, and a definite highlight for any guest in New York City.
Budget-Friendly Option: Multiple reviews categorize it as a "Good budget hotel." This indicates that it offers a competitive price point, providing excellent value for money in a city where accommodation can be quite expensive. For New Yorkers hosting guests or looking for an affordable staycation, this is a significant advantage.
Proximity to Subway Stations: Its location "near the subway stations" is a major highlight. Easy access to multiple subway lines (N, W, 7, E, M, R) means quick and efficient travel to Manhattan, other parts of Queens, and throughout Brooklyn. This convenience is paramount for navigating New York City and exploring its diverse neighborhoods.
Clean Rooms: Consistently noted in reviews, the rooms are "clean," ensuring a comfortable and hygienic environment for guests. While one lamp was reported non-functional, the overall cleanliness is a strong positive.
Friendly Staff/Security Guard: Despite the self-service model, interactions with staff members, particularly the "friendly" staff and the "very helpful nighttime security guard," indicate a positive human element that is crucial for guest experience, especially during unexpected situations like late-night check-in issues.
Spacious Enough Rooms: Reviews mention rooms are "big enough," which is a notable highlight in New York City where hotel rooms can often be quite compact. This provides more comfort and space for guests and their belongings.
Lounge Area with Coffee: The presence of a "lounge downstairs" offering coffee and luggage storage creates a communal space for guests to relax, work, or prepare for their day. This adds to the overall comfort and convenience beyond just the private room.
Independent and Modern Stay Experience: As a Sonder property, it highlights a modern, self-guided experience. This appeals to travelers who prefer a streamlined, tech-enabled process and value privacy and independence over traditional hotel services, which can be seen as a feature by those who appreciate this model.
When considering promotions or special offers at The Dutch Hotel Long Island City, Sonder, it's important to understand Sonder's operational model. Sonder properties often function more like upscale, short-term rental apartments with hotel-like amenities and a focus on technology-driven guest experiences rather than traditional hotel promotions. Therefore, direct "promotions" in the sense of seasonal discounts or package deals might be less common than with conventional hotels.
However, guests can often find value or "offers" through Sonder's own booking channels or by considering how their pricing structure works:
Sonder App/Website Exclusive Rates: Booking directly through the Sonder app or their official website is often the best way to find their most competitive rates. Sonder frequently incentivizes direct bookings by offering slightly lower prices or exclusive access to certain room types that might not be available on third-party booking sites.
Longer Stay Discounts: One of the inherent "offers" of the Sonder model is typically more favorable pricing for extended stays. If you're planning to stay for a week, a month, or even longer, Sonder often provides discounted weekly or monthly rates compared to daily rates. This is a significant advantage for locals needing temporary accommodation or out-of-town guests visiting for an extended period.
Seasonal or Demand-Based Pricing: Like all lodging, rates at The Dutch Hotel will fluctuate based on demand, local events, and seasonality. Staying during off-peak times (e.g., certain weekdays, specific months outside of major holiday periods or summer) might naturally result in lower prices, which can be viewed as an indirect promotion.
Email List/Notifications: Signing up for Sonder's email newsletter or enabling notifications on their app could alert you to flash sales, new property launches, or occasional promotional codes that they might release to their subscriber base.
Referral Programs: While not universally advertised, some tech-forward hospitality companies like Sonder might occasionally run referral programs where existing users can earn credits for referring new guests, or new guests receive a discount. It's always worth checking their terms and conditions.
To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on pricing and any potential deals for The Dutch Hotel Long Island City, it is highly recommended to visit the official Sonder website or use the Sonder app. Input your specific dates of stay to see the available rates, as these will reflect any current discounts or long-stay pricing structures.

The Dutch Hotel Long Island City, Sonder Reviews
Good budget hotel. Location is near the subway stations but the area does feel a bit unsafe. Staff are friendly and the rooms are clean. The terrace on the 8th floor has a great view of the city. The lounge downstairs has luggage storage and coffee. Good to know is that your room won’t get cleaned during your stay so you have to grab clean towels etc yourself. Room was big enough and clean, one bedside lamp wasn’t working.
May 30, 2025 · AnoukFirst time at a Sonder. it would have been nice to have been notified that there were some pre-work to complete in order to check into the hotel. I arrived late at night after a long day of travel and there was no front desk staff. There was a phone number to call. It rang for almost 10 minutes and no one answered. The nighttime security guard was very helpful and helped me complete the process to get to my room. But it was almost 30 minutes from the time I got into the hotel to the time I got into my room. And the room is not clean temp was set to 66 and it does not look like the bed had been made. first and last.
May 21, 2025 · Tony GallianiFirst time staying in a Sonder. Was pleasantly surprised at how great everything was. Clean and spacious rooms, all the basic essentials, conveniently located, and the amenities in the building are very thoughtful and intentful.Only piece of feedback to Corporate is the wait time for getting help by chatting on the app. It’s brutal. My AC didn’t work the first day, and it took over and hour to get them to confirm someone will come the next day. I was however appreciative that they fixed it first thing in the morning.
Apr 17, 2025 · Zafir DharssiWe had several issues during our stay. The duvet is completely uneven and impossible to keep us warm during the night. The door with combination lock is unable to be locked by itself when we close it from the outside. Shampoo looks nice, but doesn’t work when we press it. Given that we paid 280$ for one night stay, this is not the quality I would have expected.
May 19, 2025 · Sophia LeeThe good: great location in LIC. No-frills.The bad: bed was legitimately uncomfortable (very firm), code did not work the first time, issues with the app during the Marriott integration, no frills = bare bones staff. This is essentially a hostel. Lots of noise from the hallways into my guest room.
