The room was lovely and very comfortable and quiet. Hotel staff was friendly and efficient. Liked the lobby as a gathering place. Bit of an issue with one elevator (out of 2) that kept breaking down. Although it was fixed in a timely fashion, there could be a back up of people trying to move up and down the floors. However it really felt like you are nickel and dimed to death here. They charge you $500 upfront for "incidentals", which is refunded if not used. And, for an extra (daily) charge, you can request "upgrades" as basic as a room on a higher floor. BTW the upgrade charges are treated as separate charges so they then have taxes and fees added. The cost of the upgrade I requested more than tripled--which I discovered when I checked out. I made this reservation 4 months in advance, which was supposed to give a 15% discount but I noticed doing some checking a few days before our arrival that reserving a similar room for the same days on that date would have lowered my charges by $400 (including all of the taxes and fees). So where's the 15% discount for advance reservations? While I really liked the hotel itself, the costs would make me reconsider another stay.

Location is nearby to everything- 5-10 min walk to time square or theater district and down street from St Patrick’s Cathedral and all those things. Will definitely be staying here again. Quite area and safe and the hotel staff is so friendly.

The room was perfect with plenty of space, a table with a couch, a large bed and a wardrobe. However the bathroom was quite small and needed more space.In general we were very pleased with our stay because the hotel was modern, safe and cozy. Our room was clean, spacious with a nice view.But some things could be improved like the water pressure, some shelves in the shower, the housekeeping because some things were left out, the amenities in the room like a kettle with cups and coffee/tea, the isolation because we can hear the noise of other rooms and the street, being able to let your luggage for free after checkoutOverall we were satisfied with our stay and see ourselves coming again in the future.

In the end, I went with Romer's based on reviews but on hindsight would have probably gone with the latter.The room itself was not bad - very spacious as many have noted, very comfortable bed and large TV. I booked a corner king room as the pictures and the room description mentioned there being a long marble table and I needed this to do work. When I got to the room there wasn't a table and had to go down to reception to ask why there wasn't one. After some back and forth they eventually moved me to a room that had such a table, but just something to note for people who are booking the room on the basis that there will be such a table.The hotel reception is always quite busy, and while I was looking forward to working in the quiet lounge area on some days, it seemed to be occupied by people who didn't even stay in the hotel. On one occasion there was even a large bible study group taking place in the lobby area at night - I suppose this aligns with the whole "neighbourhood hotel" vibe but I do think there should be some preference given to hotel guests or general policing of who is hanging around the hotel for safety reasons?Either way, these incidents above are not the reason for my 3 star review of this hotel. The real incidents which I found quite off-putting were:1) I had to leave my luggages with the bell boy/desk as I arrived earlier than the check in time on the first day. I came back to the hotel at the check-in time and gave my ticket to the bell boy, who went to the back to get my luggages. While he was doing that, I sat on one of the sofas in the lobby and reached into my purse to prepare a $5 cash tip to give him. The other bell boy (who seemed to be the bell desk manager but who I had not spoken to previously) who was about 3 metres away, walked up to me from where he was saying "That's for us right?" I was slightly shocked and said "huh? uh yeah?" and he responded "OK give me that I'll take $3 and here's $2 which you can give him". I think it's completely inappropriate to approach someone holding cash assuming the tip is for you, even if it is. If there's some tip sharing arrangement between employees, keep it between yourselves! Plus, he said it in a very entitled manner, as if it was a fee that I owed him and that left a very bad taste in my mouth. For that incident I would deduct 1.5 stars.2) The coffee shop in the hotel lobby charges a mandatory 20% tip. Last I checked in New York, the norm for self-service coffee (i.e. where you get a coffee to-go) is that you don't have to tip, and even if I did want to, the amount should be my choice. The barista was friendly though so for that I'd only deduct 0.5 stars. My colleagues who stayed at Kimpton told me they had free coffee in the mornings though!
Apr 14, 2025 · Amanda YimDecent hotel in the middle of Manhattan. It's only the location which is what it's worth for. Whilst checking in the reception staff didn't even smile. Getting to our room after a 14 hour flight, fist thing was to take a nice hot shower. All the bottles in the bathroom were empty, body wash, shampoo, conditioner. This shows service of the the house keeping staff. Called for them only Body wash & conditioner is sent!! There is a TV in the room but no remote. One of the lights on the room weren't really working. We just gave up knowing service is not a given in the US especially when you go to stand alone hotels. Better to stick with your brand you stay at. Like I said, location is the only good thing.
