The Americana Inn Introduce
Welcome to our in-depth look at The Americana Inn, a distinctive lodging option nestled right in the vibrant heart of Midtown, New York City. For those of us living in or frequently visiting NYC, finding the right place to stay – whether for visiting friends and family or a convenient base for exploring – is key. The Americana Inn offers a unique approach to accommodation, blending the best aspects of a hotel with the community feel of a hostel, all within an unbeatable location. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and factual overview of what you can expect from The Americana Inn, helping you decide if it’s the perfect fit for your next stay or for recommending to out-of-town guests.
The Americana Inn stands out in the bustling New York landscape by offering a no-frills, clean, and incredibly well-located place to rest your head. Unlike traditional hotels where every room boasts a private bathroom, The Americana Inn operates on a shared-bathroom model, similar to many hostels. This design choice contributes significantly to its affordability and is an important detail for potential guests to understand upfront. However, as numerous satisfied visitors attest, this model does not detract from the overall positive experience, especially for those who prioritize location and cleanliness over private facilities. The shared kitchens on each floor further enhance its appeal, offering a communal space and convenience that you might not find in typical hotel settings.
The Americana Inn boasts an exceptional location at 69 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018, USA. This address places it squarely in Midtown Manhattan, a stone's throw from some of New York City's most iconic landmarks and attractions. Imagine being just a few blocks away from the bright lights of Times Square, the architectural marvel of the Empire State Building, and the cultural hub of Bryant Park. This central positioning means unparalleled accessibility to nearly every corner of the city.
When it comes to public transportation, The Americana Inn is incredibly well-served. The area is a nexus of subway lines, with major stations like Times Square-42nd Street and 34th Street-Herald Square within easy walking distance. This gives you immediate access to A, C, E, N, Q, R, W, 1, 2, 3, 7, and S (Shuttle) trains, allowing for effortless commutes to neighborhoods like Greenwich Village, the Upper West Side, Brooklyn, and beyond. Numerous bus lines also crisscross the vicinity, providing additional options for getting around. For those arriving from out of town, Penn Station, a major transportation hub for Amtrak, NJ Transit, and the Long Island Rail Road, is also conveniently close by. The Americana Inn Reviews
Staff was great and everything was very clean and well taken care of. Only giving this place three stars because this is entirely a hostel - you share a bathroom as well as a kitchen on every floor. This isn't a hotel in the traditional sense, and the website doesn’t do much to make you aware of this. It is mentioned. I looked through the emails they sent, and it was mentioned once out of a handful of emails from them. The only thing private are the rooms, which is also a possibility at many hostels. So taking all this into consideration, for what you get, you can find hostels around for a similar or better price. This place is nice, and the location is great. Just understand this is a hostel and not a “hotel” as many people understand.
May 31, 2025 · Allyssa BarleyI spent three nights at this hotel, and I was entirely satisfied with it. I think a lot of people who left reviews have champagne taste and a beer budget, and expected the Ritz. It’s a clean, simple hotel - yes with shared bathrooms, get over it!! - that is in a perfect location for exploring the best city in the US. I would definitely stay again!
Apr 28, 2025 · Emily DavisMy family stayed in a three twin bed room, March 19-22nd. Our experience was fairly pleasant! Listen, if you can't read that it says shared bathroom, then I'm sorry. We were very aware that we would not have a private bathroom. I was happily surprised to see that there were so many bathrooms on our floor. It was nice to have one right outside of our door, but if that one was occupied there were three others to go to. Friday night, March 21st, when we had gotten back from being out all day, the bathroom by our room was not in good condition. I actually chose not to use it and went to a different one. Anyway, the bathroom experience was perfectly acceptable. It was nice to come back to our room each evening and see that our beds had been made. The front desk staff were nice. The elevator is small, but people should probably remember that a lot of these buildings were built before elevators were a thing.Your room is going to be noisy if it's facing the street. There's no way around it. The city never sleeps. It was only slightly noisier than where I live currently in Cleveland. If you're from the country or the suburbs, bring earplugs. One thing that really bothered me, that I noticed on the last day, was that the windows to our room didn't lock. My boyfriend said he noticed it the first day but didn't want to freak us out. That is very, very concerning.Overall, I was very satisfied with our stay. The location is perfect. The price is decent. It really made our trip to New York City so much more convenient than it could have been.I would stay here again!
Apr 18, 2025 · Rachel CruzAlthough accomodations are a little simple, shared bathrooms, no common lounge, I highly recommend this hotel. Service is above and beyond and very clean. They will account request immediately. Staff is very pleasant and friendly. Also, great location with many eating options nearby.
Apr 16, 2025 · Susan HansellMy recent stay at the Americana Inn in New York left me deeply frustrated and feeling cheated. While the hotel itself was *moderately clean*, the overall experience was far from acceptable given the exorbitant price of **$200 per night** for a 2-star property. Here’s why:**The Room & Amenities:**The room was cramped, noisy (thin walls and street sounds), and had a shared bathroom, which was not clearly communicated during booking. For $200/night, I expected basic comforts like a private toilet and reasonable space, but this felt more like a budget hostel.**The Pricing Scam:**The worst part? Upon arrival, I discovered the standard rate for this room was **$70/night**—less than half what I paid through Agoda. I booked Agoda’s “Book Now, Pay Later” option, trusting their promise of “best prices.” Instead, I was charged nearly triple the actual rate. When I escalated this to Agoda, they dismissed my complaint, blaming the price difference on the payment method. This is unacceptable—Agoda’s “Pay Later” feature should not be a loophole to exploit customers.**Agoda’s Lack of Accountability:**As a long-time Agoda user (and premium member), I’m appalled by their refusal to address this blatant overcharge. Their customer service deflected responsibility, offering no resolution or compensation. It’s clear they prioritize profits over customer trust.**Final Thoughts:**The Americana Inn is *not worth more than $70/night*, and Agoda’s unethical pricing practices have shattered my confidence in their platform. Until they rectify this issue and protect customers from misleading offers, I urge travelers to **avoid Agoda** and book directly with hotels or through more transparent platforms.**Save your money—and your peace of mind.***Rating: 1/5 (for cleanliness only).*
